This is a quick way to get classroom updates and see what is happening in your child’s classroom! Classroom Pre-K | Full Day Ms. Rubio | Ms. Winters | Ms. Olga Welcome Autumn! Students have been collecting and learning about the different types of colors of leaves for the Fall/Autumn Season. Since we are learning about leaves this will bring us to our new Unit on Trees. Students are learning and reciting Nursery Rhymes, chants, and love to sing new songs. Students will begin to learn how to hold a Pre-K | Half Day Ms. Cabrera | Ms. Barnes We are continuing to open up centers in the classroom. This week we opened Dramatic Play. Students are having fun and using their imaginations! Everyone is enjoying cooking food and dressing up as a police officer, doctor, or construction worker. We are learning nursery rhymes and fun ways to act them out. We’ve learned Little Miss Muffet and Humpty Dumpty. Students take First Grade Ms. Shurtleff First graders are working hard to learn and practice important skills for learning and listening. We have begun to use our tablets working on Lexia and RAZ Kids to develop our independent reading skills. Scamper the squirrel is on the move! First graders are doing a great job writing and illustrating stories about their adventures with our new friend. In Science this month we will have our first visitor from the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. We will continue to practice our observation skills as we explore Animal 3 rd and 4 th Grade Math, 3 rd Grade ELA Ms. Viramontes 3rd graders are currently studying about schools around the world. We are also doing a great job working towards our weekly Accelerated Reader goals and exploring different genres of books. Reminder, students should be reading 20 minutes each night! In Math class 3rd graders are continuing our study of multiplication and division strategies. Please 3rd grade scientists have studied the force Second Grade Ms. Ortega This month we’ll be diving more into our Animal Secrets Science Unit. We’ll learn about how animals use their senses and body parts to survive. We’ll then go on a field trip to the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum at the end of the month. Keep an eye on class 3 rd and 4 th Grade Science, 4 th Grade ELA Ms. Torres Jungman’s fabulous 4th graders continue their study of ENERGY. We are discussing potential and kinetic energy and will then study the pros and cons of various energy sources. In our reading groups, students are enjoying great literature and making connections to text, asking questions as they read, and using dialogue and actions to learn about a character. Ms. Vahey and I have our writing groups set up, too, and our young authors are learning about the 6 th Grade Homeroom, 5 th -6 th ELA and Soc. Sci Ms. Izzi We are finalizing our Matchbox Summaries! Please come and check them out. They will be on our bulletin boards for the month of October. Very shortly, students in 5th grade will begin to take a close look at the Declaration of Human Rights and what that looks like in today’s society. Students in 6th grade will begin to analyze 3-6 Mr. Howe | Ms. Marsella | Ms. Crystal | Mr. Joe Room 203 is hard at work this month making use of all of our literacy resources, from Raz-Kids to Lexia, Scholastics Magazine (hard copy as well as digital), and News2You! We are working our brains extra hard this month. Looking ahead we are excited to be gearing up for the Special Olympics. Application forms went out this week in both English and 5 th Grade Homeroom, 5 th -8 th Grade Science Mr. Orta Fifth grade has started Second Step in the classroom. These are strategies for social and academic success! We have been discussing empathy and respect. During science, students are doing various labs using different form of matter in order to understand that regardless of the 7 th -8 th Ms. Montanez Creative kids club is in full effect in room 301! Everyday at 3:00 pm students get their creative juices flowing through various themed projects. What better way to take a break from a hard day of doing math and literacy, than being innovative and inventive! This month our focus is Halloween of course, every day we will focus on something spooky Special Education Team K-8 Ms. Vahey I am excited to be starting our Book Buddies and Lexia after school programs this month. Our adult volunteers from Open Books can’t wait to meet their Book buddies on Mondays and Wednesdays after school. Lexia is on Tuesdays and Thursdays. For students in these programs dinner is served after school and our programs gets out at 5:15 through the center doors with the doorbell. Ms. Schubert I’m looking forward to working on the upcoming Benito Juarez Musical, The Addams Family, with our middle school students. Being involved in Wizard of Oz last year was so much fun. I know everyone will have an excellent experience this time as well! Ms. Snyder Homework Club has started in room 300! Homework in room 300 is assigned on Monday and due Friday. Classroom ConnectionPre-K | Full Day

Ms. Rubio | Ms. Winters | Ms. OlgaWelcome Autumn! Students have been collecting and learning about the different types of colors of leaves for the Fall/Autumn Season. Since we are

learning about leaves this will bring us to our new Unit on Trees.

Students are learning and reciting Nursery Rhymes, chants, and love to sing new songs.

Students will begin to learn how to hold a pencil using a three point grip and write their first name on

a sign in sheet every morning.

3rd grade scientists have studied the force of magnetism.  Next, we will study the cause and effect relationship related to Friction.   Students also work on reading bar graphs in their daily homework.

Second GradeMs. Ortega

This month we’ll be diving more into our Animal Secrets Science Unit.  We’ll learn about how animals

use their senses and body parts to survive.  We’ll then go on a field trip to the Peggy Notebaert Nature

Museum at the end of the month.  Keep an eye on class Dojo for more info :)
