Attendance will be counted in Classroom Pre-K | Full Day Ms. Rubio | Ms. Winters | Ms. Olga Our Pre-K classroom has been learning about trees! The children have walked outdoors collecting leaves. The children will create a project using the leaves. The children have made Fall Trees using their arms and have used tree branches to painting. The children have worked so hard creating a Pre-K | Half Day Ms. Cabrera | Ms. Barnes Our classroom has begun our unit on trees! Our dramatic play area has changed from a kitchen to a camp site. First Grade Ms. Shurtleff In 1st grade we are excited to be exploring poems. We are practicing identifying and creating rhyming words using word families. We are working on our small group routines for both reading and math. In reading students will be taking home just-right books to read with their families. In math we will continue to work on using number bonds and picture models to add and subtract numbers within 10. In science we are finishing up our exploration of Animal Secrets and are getting excited about our field trip to the Peggy 3 rd and 4 th Grade Math, 3 rd Grade ELA Ms. Viramontes 3rd grade readers are getting ready to learn all about ancient Japan and begin our book, The Magic Tree House: Dragon of the Red Dawn . We will be studying character traits, plot elements, and researching about Japan. In Math we are beginning our unit on time and measurement. 3rd graders are learning how to tell time on a clock, working with elapsed time, and measuring using the metric system. Please encourage your child to practice using a clock at home! The young scientists of 206 have worked Second Grade Ms. Ortega 2nd grade has just wrapped up our unit on ancient civilizations including ancient India and ancient China. We will begin our unit on the ancient greek civilization in the 2nd quarter. In math we’ve just finished our unit on 3 rd and 4 th Grade Science, 4 th Grade ELA Ms. Torres The young authors of 4th grade shared their stories in class. Their wonderful stories included lessons about friendships. Their writing focussed on developing characters through the use of dialogue and elements of writing such as onomatopoeia. Students also read and wrote informational text about Simple Machines. The focus was Main Idea, Supporting Details and the structure of an informational paragraph. In science class, we have continued our lessons as part of the Peggy Notebaert Nature Museum. 6 th Grade Homeroom, 5 th -6 th ELA and Soc. Sci Ms. Izzi 6th grade is taking a closer look at “The Hero’s Journey” through the lens of The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan The Hero’s Journey is a pattern of narrative identified by the American scholar Joseph Campbell that appears in drama, storytelling, myth, religious ritual, and psychological development. It describes the Special Education Team K-8 Ms. Vahey The Book Buddies and Lexia after school classes celebrated the end of October with hot apple cider. I am excited at the reading gains that our students are making. 20 students have moved on to the next level in the Lexia program so far this year. There will be no classes for Book Buddies and Lexia after school November 13 through November 24. Enjoy this break. Classes will start again the week of November 27th. I can’t wait for our S.T.E.A.M. Makers lab and K.A.S.T. morning program to start in November. Student who have been accepted into the program have been given permission slips. I am excited to be partnering with the Kids are Scientist Too organization to give our students a chance to interpret and understand science in a different way. Our program is Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8am to 9am. The Scholastic book Fair is back again this year November 15th - November 21st and April 16th -20th. The fairs coincide with our report card pick up days. Our goal is to raise $2500 with each fair so we earn 50% of the sales in Scholastic Dollars. Teachers will spend our Scholastic dollars to buy book for our classroom libraries. Our classrooms are in desperate need of new books for our eager readers. Please consider shopping at the fair to support reading in our school. Ms. Schubert The Addams Family rehearsals are going very well. Our students have learned 1 st Quarter Report Cards are coming out this month! I am excited to say that we have close to 1/3 of our school with 100% perfect attendance! We are so proud of those students and parents for that commitment to learning! Juarez High School created another Pilsen Community Production where Jungman Students will be featured! The performance is taking place November 17 th at 7 th Grade Homeroom, 5 th -8 th Math Mr. Prado Students in 5th Grade will explore the relationships of adjacent units on the place value chart in order to write,interpret numerical expressions, and evaluate expressions. Students in 6th grade will extend their knowledge of ratios and begin to study rate and how it applies to daily life. Students in 7th grade will learn about discount rates and the Parent Report Card Pick-Up Weds. We will also listen to a story about Helen Keller and her challenges as a blind child. These two biographies are an important part of our unit. We are making great progress with beginning sounds and letter recognition. Many Kindergartners’ are already working on reading basic sight words. The children will create a project using the leaves. The children have made Fall Trees using their arms

and have used tree branches to painting.  The children have worked so hard creating a large 3D

Tree.  We will begin our new Unit on Clothing.  We will celebrate Thanksgiving by making Bread Pudding!

3rd grade readers are getting ready to learn all about ancient Japan and begin our book, The Magic Tree House: Dragon of the Red Dawn. We will be studying character traits, plot elements, and researching about Japan. In Math we are beginning our unit on time and measurement. 3rd graders are learning how to tell time on a clock, working with elapsed time, and measuring using the metric system. Please encourage your child to practice using a clock at home!

The young scientists of 206 have worked on their prompts which have focused on reading data from bar graphs.  3rd graders have also embarked on investigations about the structure and function of animal body parts and how adaptations lead to survival.

Second GradeMs. Ortega

2nd grade has just wrapped up our unit on ancient civilizations including ancient India and ancient China. We will begin our unit on the ancient greek civilization

in the 2nd quarter.  In math we’ve just finished our unit on measurement and  have just begun our unit on

place value.

4th graders will be beginning our unit on multiplication strategies. Students will learn about multiplying by 10, 100, and 1,000. Students will also learn how to multiply four digit numbers by a single digit.

Ms. SchubertThe Addams Family rehearsals are going very well. Our students have learned three songs so far and are having a lot of fun! I am very proud of our kids

and all the hard work they are putting into this. There will be 3 performances and tickets are free.

Ms. SnyderHomework club is underway.  Homework in room 300 is assigned on Monday and due the following

Friday.  Homework assignments are designed to be complete independently. We are working on fall-

related themes in math and reading.  We are focusing on writing complete sentences with correct

letter formation, spacing, and punctuation.
