EARLY YEARS EXPANSION UPDATE (2) – 8 th February 2019 ELC Expansion Workshops/Webinars- We are planning to hold a webinar in the Council Chamber at Glenurquhart Road (10:30-12:30) on Wednesday 15 th May with links from Portree, Wick, Dingwall and Fort William. The webinar will be a chance to hear an update on ELC Expansion plans. There will be an opportunity to register to attend via the CPD calendar and a more detailed agenda for the day will follow shortly. 1140 sites- We have been working closely with head teachers and partner centre managers of the proposed sites where we plan to deliver 1140 hours from August 2019 and hope to provide a detailed list of these setting over the next couple of weeks. A document to support staff around implementation of 1140 hours has been developed and will shortly be made available and we are currently working on a similar guide for parents and carers. Catering update: Nicola Fraser Project Co-ordinator (Catering) is working in partnership with the Catering Officers (Bob Gray, Kevin Fraser & Hayley Owen) as well as the ELC Commissioners and will be visiting schools to ascertain catering and dining requirements for 1140 delivery over the next few weeks. Outdoor Learning- A small working group has been working on the development of a Training Plan to support creative use of outdoor provision. Communication Strategy- The ELC Communication Strategy has now been developed Eligible 2s- A position statement on provision of ELC for Eligible two year olds is now available Partnership Group Meeting- The Partnership Group is due to meet on Wednesday 20 th February (2-4) where discussions will include Grant Aid and Position Statement for Partners, Modern Apprenticeships and Men in Childcare. We have also set up a small working group that will be involved in the development of Expansion documentation. Modern Apprenticeships- Highland Council have successfully signed up six modern apprentices over the past year and are ambitious to increase our MA capacity in 2019. To support this training we require experienced qualified early years practitioners to become mentors and assessors. This is an exciting opportunity for staff members who wish to develop their career pathway within early years.
