Similarly to the Allison Transmission found in the GM Duramax, the new Ram transmission uses electronically-variable pressure control to govern the amount of hydraulic pressure sent to its internal clutch packs. Commonly, due to heavy towing weights or modified power levels, the holding ability of the clutch packs in the stock transmission are overcome by engine torque and lead to slipping issues and component failure. The ATS Co-Pilot monitors the engine load being exerted on the transmission and modifies the hydraulic strategy to prevent slippage. With the Co-Pilot Controller in-place, heavy towing and power modification can be accomplished safely with long-term durability. The Co-Pilot solves the issue associated with the low roller clutches application and prevents sprag damage (a commonly seen failure). The driver is given an in-cab tool from which they can adjust the strategy of the Co-Pilot depending on the conditions and usage of the truck. Various program profiles can be chosen quickly and easily by pressing buttons on the front interface of the box. Benefits of using the Co-Pilot include: smoother shifting, forced lockup at increased power levels, desensitized torque converter clutch engagement at lower boost levels, increased torque- holding capacity, and cooler operating temperatures. Due to the complexity of the interlinked sensors and computers on the 6.7L Dodge Truck, this version of the Co-Pilot is the most powerful model yet released by ATS and utilizes multiple on-board processors to monitor many real-time input factors (similar to today’s multi-processor desktop computers). Co-Pilot Controller Arrives For The Dodge 68RFE TransmissionSlippage Prevention And Increased Durability For Towing And Upgrades

Late model Dodge Pickups with the 6.7L Cummins engine now ship with the 68RFE model transmission.

Benefits of using the Co-Pilot include: smoother shifting, forced lockup at increased power levels, desensitized torque converter clutch engagement at lower boost levels, increased torque-holding capacity, and cooler operating temperatures.

The end result of the many hours of development on the 68RFE Co-Pilot is a powerful, highly-polished, high-functionality tool that can be used to accomplish the objective, whether it be heavy towing or increased power output. The Co-Pilot can be used with either a stock-factory transmission or any aftermarket unit and provides maximum torque-holding benefits when used with the ATS Diesel 68RFE Transmission package.
