1/5 “NAIJA STREET STORIES” UK/Nigeria Documentary Film Competition, Mentoring and Training Programme Calling aspiring documentary filmmakers… We invite you to tell us a short story about a woman or group of women in Nigeria, of around ten minutes in length, that you would like to put on film. A documentary is a type of film that is based on the real world and real people, depicting things as they are or telling about historical events in a truthful and objective manner. From the applications, three stories will be selected by a judging panel of top UK and Nigerian film industry representatives to be developed into a short film. The three successful directors will be put into a team made up of other entrants to the competition and will develop the story with the help of UK based industry mentors. The teams will be invited to participate in a four day training and mentoring programme in Lagos which will culminate in a documentary pitch to top Nigerian commissioners. Following this, one lucky filmmaking team will be selected to shoot their short documentary film. This training and mentoring programme, set to take place over summer 2015, is run by Triggshot Productions, Hatch Africa Solutions, and FMA Productions and is funded by the British Council. The training is scheduled to take place in Lagos, Nigeria in the week commencing 12 October, 2015 and will be led by Producer/Director Frank Adekunle Macaulay of FMA Productions Ltd. The professional shoot is scheduled to take place in November, 2015. The finished film will be shown as part of the UK/NG Cultural Season run by the British Council. Who can apply? This course is open to aspiring documentary makers between 18 to 25 years of age who are passionate, dedicated to a career making films, and have a powerful story to tell. 1. RULES AND GUIDELINES1.1. Programme participants wishing to take part must be available for one week of

training and development in October in Lagos and one week of production in November 2015 elsewhere in Nigeria and will be able to dedicate time to feed into the post-production process scheduled for December and January 2015.

1.2. The best project, as decided by a Jury, will be selected to go into production, which the chosen filmmaker will receive credit for and can be used for their individual show reels.

1.3. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.1.4. Production of the documentary is due to take place w/c 2 November.1.5. Permission must be sought from the people you plan to film and agreement of

their availability for filming during this time period, before you submit your application. A signed form must be submitted with your application. Please use the attached form.

1.6. Entries must be the original work of the entrant, and must not infringe the rights of any other party. The organisers accept no liability if entrants ignore these rules and entrants agree to fully indemnify the organisers against any claims by third parties arising from breach of these rules.

1.7. Entrants can only enter individually. 1.8. Entries received that do not contain all materials outlined, will not be

considered.1.9. Entries must be written in English. 1.10. Entering projects for consideration constitutes permission to use the selected

filmmakers’ names, likeness and project content for publicity without additional permission being sought.

1.11. The organisers reserve the right to cancel the initiative and propose new dates or amend these terms and conditions.

1.12. The organisers reserve the right to reject any entry for any reason at their absolute discretion.

2. ELIGIBILTY2.1. This initiative is for aspiring filmmakers between the ages of 18 and 25 as of 1

January 2015.2.2. Entrants must hold a Nigerian passport and be able to prove you have resided

in Nigeria for up to five years prior to 1 January 2015.2.3. You must not have had a network commission, but may have broadcast credits.

We will consider submissions from new and experienced filmmakers. Please list your credits in the application form.

2.4. You must not be an employee of Triggshot Productions, British Council, FMA Productions or Hatch Africa.

2.5. Proof of age, identity, residency and eligibility may be requested. The organisers’ decision as to the eligibility of individual entrants will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.

3. JUDGING CRITERIA & PROCESSApplications are judged on the following criteria:3.1. The originality, power and strength of the story idea3.2. The estimated benefits to the applicant 3.3. The achievability of the story idea based on timeline and contributor / location
