Hello Everyone, The first thing I want to say is thank you to all of you for asking me to act as president this year - I consider it an honor, for TU has changed my life these past few years. Finding a new sense of peace and rich set of challenges on the river, coupled with a new apprecia- on for the health of rivers and their downstream dependents, is wrapped up with the fine chapter all of you have built. There are, I hope, many interesng mes ahead this year - my plan is to focus on stream rehabilitaon (be sure to let me know of any small streams or rivers that might be in need), cleanups, rekindling partnerships with other conservaon groups, as well as to connue to grow our trips and make sure everyone gets the chance to fish with their buddies at least a few days a year. Speaking of which, as the summer is coming to an end, the crispy days of autumn and a pickup of fishing on our reddening streams, I hope everyone will check out our fall trip this Columbus Day weekend to Hancock, NY on the Delaware River. Thank you to Ken Maera and Jon Fischer for heading up this one! Finally, I hope to get more of our members involved by contribung only the me they can afford - a phone call once in a while, a stream cleanup or bank restoraon once a year, helping organize a trip, or maybe a meeng or two. You don't have to dedicate any more than you can afford. If you've ever thought of geng involved, big or small, just say hello at the meeng or send me an email and we'll get you to where ever your passion may lie. Again, thank you everyone, and here's to ght lines and an Indian summer! Christopher Aigner T.U. PHILOSOPHY We believe that trout and salmon fishing isn't just fishing for trout and salmon. It's fishing for sport rather than food, where the true enjoyment of the sport lies in the challenge, the lore, the bale of wits, not necessarily the full creel. It's the feeling of sasfacon that comes from liming your kill instead of killing your limit. It's communing with nature where the chief reward is a refreshed body and a contented soul, where a license is a permit to use not abuse, to enjoy not destroy our cold water fishery. It's subscribing to the proposion that what's good for trout and salmon is good for the fisherman and that managing trout and salmon for themselves rather than the fisherman is fundamental to the soluon of our trout and salmon problems. Hello Everyone, The first thing I want to say is thank you to all of you for asking me to act as president this

year - I consider it an honor, for TU has changed my life these past few years. Finding a new sense of peace and rich set of challenges on the river, coupled with a new apprecia-tion for the health of rivers and their downstream dependents, is wrapped up with the fine chapter all of you have built. There are, I hope, many interesting times ahead this year - my plan is to focus on stream rehabilitation (be sure to let me know of any small streams or rivers that might be in need), cleanups, rekindling partnerships with other conservation groups, as well as to continue to grow our trips and make sure everyone gets the chance to fish with their buddies at least a few days a year. Speaking of which, as the summer is coming to an end, the crispy days of autumn and a pickup of fishing on our reddening streams, I hope everyone will check out our fall trip this Columbus Day weekend to Hancock, NY on the Delaware River. Thank you to Ken Mattera and Jon Fischer for heading up this one! Finally, I hope to get more of our members involved by contributing only the time they can afford - a phone call once in a while, a stream cleanup or bank restoration once a year, helping organize a trip, or maybe a meeting or two. You don't have to dedicate any more than you can afford. If you've ever thought of getting involved, big or small, just say hello at the meeting or send me an email and we'll get you to where ever your passion may lie. Again, thank you everyone, and here's to tight lines and an Indian summer! Christopher Aigner

35th Annual Conservation Banquet

By the time you read this in the Paumonok, the Long Island Chapter of Trout Unlimited’s 35th Annual Conservation Banquet will be just about upon us... the date is, Friday, September 16th, 2016. Festivities will begin at 7:00pm and last until 11:00pm at the Memorare Club in Seaford. The cost this year is $65.00 per person for a great even-ing of food, dancing, and fun!! Cocktails & hors d'oeuvres will be served at the open bar beginning at 7:00pm and dinner, raffles and auction will begin at 8:00pm. If you missed last year’s event, be sure not to miss this one as it promises to be even better. This is a great opportunity for you to spend an evening out, having a great time with some old friends, while making new ones, supporting a worthy cause and win some great prizes in the pro-cess! Remember to enter into the 50/50 raffle - which had over $1,100.00 in it last year! There will be some fan-tastic bucket raffle prizes and, of course, one of our biggest highlights, the live auction will once again be back this year, so don’t be shy raising your hand to make a bid. The Conservation Banquet is our biggest fundraiser of the year and allows us to rein-force Trout Unlimited’s mission to conserve, protect and restore our cold water fisheries and their watersheds. The funds raised help us purchase equipment to monitor our local streams, provide tanks & supplies for Trout in the Classroom, sponsor teenagers to the NYS DEC Environmental Camps. Your contri-butions go fully towards our comprehensive conservation strategy intended to protect, reconnect, restore and sustain individual riv-er systems right here on Long Island. By maximizing the amount of proceeds this year’s fundraiser generates, the resource you all so greatly enjoy will benefit – it’s a way for you to give back to the rivers that have given you so much and have the solid sense of satisfaction that you have been a participant in the conservation, protection and restoration of trout and salmon waters that have long suffered from the degradation caused by modern society. Please join us at this year’s Banquet to honor one of Long Island’s leaders and fellow con-servationists. If you put your response on the back burner, now is the time to act, call our treasurer, Tom LoProto at (917) 836-5615 or send him an email [email protected] letting him know you are attending. Thanks for your support and I hope to see you there! Jeff Plackis | 2016 Banquet Chairman

Tips A Reply to “Good Way to Assemble Multi-Piece Rods Maurice Mahler (Leaders of the Project healing waters in NJ) wrote: On the rod sack in the tubes the Rods are stored, we put stickers on each pocket of the sack sections 1-2-3-4-5 etc. AND on the corre-sponding rod section at the butt end. The Vets love it. All-Purpose Stream Tool - A small, inexpensive tool that easily slips into your vest is a "test clip" used by hobbyists and repairmen in testing min-iature electronic components. The tool has a small spring-loaded hook that protrudes out from a shaft when the top of the tool is depressed. The tool comes in handy for picking out flies from a fly box and also to twist the fly when knotting it to the tippet. It's available in different colors. So, choose a color that will make it easiest to spot when you drop it on the ground or in the water. The test clip can be purchased at Radio Shack, and comes in two sizes, "mini" and "micro." Ed-die Keegan A Magnet Comes in Handy - Carry a small mag-net in your fly vest. It will aid in finding and pick-ing up a small fly (or other small gear made of iron/steel) should you drop it on the ground. Tie a thin line to it so you can drag it along the ground to find the size 24 fly you just dropped. Jeff Kaminsky Easy Way to Clean Your Rod and Protect the Fin-ish - After a day of fishing, try wiping down your rod and reel with a silicone impregnated cloth like those used for firearms.

It removes fingerprints and water stains and leaves a nice protective coat on your equip-ment. You can pick one up at any store that deals with firearms or accessories. You can al-so use furniture polish (i.e., Pledge). John Genovesi Improve Wading Traction – If you are still us-ing felt sole, before a day of fishing, scrub the felt soles of your waders with a heavy wire brush. You'll be amazed how much better the felt holds on the stream bottom. Craig Castioni Don’t trim Tag End of Knots Too Closely - Leave a SMALL amount of space between the tag end of your knots and the knot, itself. It will last longer, remain stronger and not slip apart when you have that 24 inch fish on the line. Send your tips to [email protected]

The total includes: 2- Night Lodging (Friday 10/07 and Saturday 10/08 Nights).
