Internet
Professional Development• As "a network of many different computers connected together", the possibililities for
professional development are countless.• Collaboration and sharing of ideas, practices, programs, questions are only limited by our
imagination and time.• We no longer are limited by our location, but have instant access to information around the
world and maybe even beyond.
Communication• We are able to communicate with and see our family, friends, and colleagues across town
and around the world almost instantly.• Web browsers (Internet Explorer, Netscape, Safari, and Firefox) and Search Engines
(Google,Noodletools, NoodleQuest, Digital Librarian) using spiders or robots allow you to connect to billions of other web pages stored on remote servers and collect information using keyword on virtually any imaginable subject. Example: www.museumoffinearts.com links you to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts.
• Social networks abound such as Facebook, mySpace, Grono.net (Poland), IWiW (Hungrary, Gloob (Iran), Gossipreport.com. Warning: Posting personal information may put yourself, your family, and friends at risk.
•
Research
• • Research• Current and historic information regarding the latest research information is but a click away,
but be versed in how to verify information is critical. • Utilizing Links or Truncating a URL (Uniform Resource Locator) allows you to quickly
research related information, narrow searches, move between levels or layer of information• When planning a research project the following steps are recommended:
o Define the research problem (fact finding or more complex?)o Know what sort of information you are looking for (text, video, pictures?)o Select the right search tools. (Which search engine is best?)o Devise and categorize a list of keywordso Understand the importance of quotation marks or "+", "-" signs in keyword phraseso Identify a range of search tools. (subject-specific, historic, regular search engine
Digital Imaging
Personal Outreach• A picture is worth a thousand words!" is an old saying, but who ever said had no idea of
what lie ahead in the future. Sharing pictures with friends and family is now become second nature to most of us today. It allows us to instantly send and receive digital images to and from anywhere in the world.
Community Outreach• Plans, graphs, texts, blueprints, detailed digital photographs are utilized for initating,
planning, fundraising, and monitoring community development projects in our own neighborhoods, but around the world. (include plan of WE playground plans)

Blogs and Wikis
Blogs • Weblogs or blogs are websits that are easily created, easily updated and allow you to
publish your ideas, information, pictures, video, and opinions istantly on the Internet from any Internet connection. Check out this powerpoint summary link: http://docs.google.com/Presentation?docid=dc4rnvkn_1gws5b6gb or
http://killamblog.blogspot.com/?zx=57f32577fbc6d6bd
Wikis • Wiki's, according to Will Richardson, "Are collaborative websites where anyone can add
content and anyone can edit content that has already been published anytime they want." Example: www.wikipedia.org or visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/wood_end_school
• Wiki's encourage us to think critically, force us to organize our own thinking, and then improve on it as we interprete another's understanding.
• Please check out Will Richardson's views on writing and collaboration as taken from his keynote at MASSCUE on 11.19.09 with the link below:

Podcasts, RSS Feeds
Podcasts • Derived from the Apple iPod, Podcasts are audio or video content that can be
downloaded to a computer or loaded on to mobile music player such as an mp3 player or iPod. It allows anyone to self-publish a syndicated "radio or video show. It also allows you to listen to radio or television programs away from home or literally while taking your morning jog.
• Using RSS (Real Simple Syndication other can subcribe to your podcasts and schedule automatic downloads. A podcast isn't a podcast unless it is being subscribed to via RSS.
• Teachers have used podcasts and iPod downloads to provide tutorial support for students, welcome new students, enhanced guided reading lessons. Visit: http://epnweb.org to view how other schools are using podcasts to support student learning.
RSS Feeds• Ever feel over whelmed with the ever growing amount of information on just about every
topic you could imagine? The application that can help you manage it is called Real Simple Syndication or RSS. This application allows you to "subscribe" to the content on a Website so that the information is sent to you automactically so that you don't have to keep going to that site. Bill Richardson says, "RSS is a technology that will change your life, if you let it."
