Children are born egocentric; it’s part of their survival equipment. In the jour-ney to self-regulation, children will need to embrace the ideas, opinions, atti-tudes and spaces of others, and learn to adapt their behaviour responses ac-cordingly. With positive role models and a nurturing environment children usu-ally arrive at self-regulation happy, motivated and fulfilled. School is undoubt-edly the proving ground for self-regulation, alive with routines and rules to ensure all students have the opportunity to achieve and develop meaningful social relationships. It can all fall apart when students refuse to follow direc-tions, or have total disregard for their behaviour and its consequences. It’s our job, as teachers, to try and put the pieces back together again, bolstering self-esteem and a sense of self-worth. In Term 3 students will be participating in lessons that have been inspired by outstanding educationalist, Sean Covey. Titled “7 habits of successful chil-dren”, the lessons will encourage students to develop rich self-regulation that has a positive impact on their peers and their families. Students in Years 3-6 have been preparing for the lessons by completing their Positive Impact Profiles, articulating their ideal environment, the people who have impact on their lives, and their dreams and hopes for themselves. One of the benefits of this preparation is that students grow into realisation of dif-ferences and begin to develop acceptance. Have a safe and happy holiday,
Not all learning occurs during lesson time… Jayda and Dakoda have explored the fundamentals of physics while building a tepee in the playground. Jack and Dean are worthy opponents in a serious chess challenge during lunch break.
Public Speaking, 2018 Last Tuesday afternoon, our public speaking group took to the stage in round two of the Small
Schools Public Speaking competition, against Mt Pleasant Public School. The topics of choice were
– ‘favourite hobby’ and ‘media matters’.
Speakers from each school were commended on their efforts by staff and students from both
schools.
Unfortunately, Jesse was unable to speak on the day, but he was certainly there in spirit. He has as-
sured us that he is ready and excited for round 3 and looking forward to the science topics on of-
fer, as are our other public speakers.
Below, Jayda has provided us with a recount of the afternoon.
Hi I’m Jayda and I’m back to talk about public speaking. We had fun and it was amazing! I’ve got William and Lillian here to say what it was like. First we have Wil-liam. William what was it like? “It was a new experience for me but I liked it”. What was it like for you Lillian? “I was nervous on the day but when I got start-ed I wasn’t nervous anymore”. Okay, now my turn; “It was actually really fun and exciting! I was a bit… okay, maybe a lot, nervous but I got over it”. Until next time, see you and have a great day - over and out!

READY4SCHOOL

Last week in Ready 4 School we looked at the ‘Ee’ sound. We did lots of activities and sang
our Jolly Phonics song to focus on the ‘Ee’ sound. Below you can see Cooper has made the
letter ‘Ee’ using our peg boards.
We have been focusing on ensuring all our students in Ready 4 School are using their correct pencil grip when writing. Above is a photo of Nash who has been working hard
to achieve this.
During our Math sessions we have been working on our number recognition. The picture on the left shows Shae matching
dots to their corresponding number.
Kayecare has been as busy as bees
the past few weeks. We continue to
focus on getting down to basics,
keeping what's important in everyday
life, keeping our little people healthy
and grounded. We have been work-
ing on eye-hand coordination skills
using bats and balls and balloon play
with foam poles . We also have been
trying hard to work on listening skills.
We are doing this through story recall.
Once a book is read we see how
many events can be recalled from
the story. The kids have learned how
to match and separate colours and
shapes into groups and picture dom-
inoes have proved very popular.
The kids have been photo-
copying their hands to make a
hand of friendship tree. They
enjoyed this and happily com-
pared hands.
We sadly farewelled our sweet
little Scarlett, we wish her all the
very best for her next journey.
We celebrated Ellie and By-
ron’s 3rd birthday. Lily lost a
tooth and this was the excite-
ment of the afternoon.
As most of the families will be
preparing for school holidays, if
you are travelling please take
care on the roads and return
safe and sound to us. Have a
wonderful break. Until next time
stay beautiful. Take care,
Kayecare.
Kids in the Community
I’m thinking about getting one of these for the staff room… jumping all the stress out! Good friends Alice and Dar-cy enjoying the winter sunshine. James and Nathan are seriously into a card game.
Please keep the camera (or mobile phone!) ready over the holidays for sharing in Term 3.
Small Schools Athletics Carnival: Wednesday, July 25th, 2015. Alroy Park Singleton.
