Who is the white man When is in the past Where is all over the country What is taking over us Why is to try to change us.

Page 24: Phyllis Cagle Mrs. Jacobson Spring 2010 5 th Block.

Q: Do you hear the river speaking to you? A: Yes, I hear the river though I don’t think it talks.   Q: Can you paint with all the colors of the wind? A: No, I have never heard of such a thing as that.

Q: Do you know how high a sycamore tree grows? A: No, though it is great to build with.   Q: Do you ever hear the wolf cry to the blue corn moon? A: No, what, exactly, is a blue corn moon.   Q: Do you ever think of the lives you are taking? A: Yes, though it is just survival of the fittest.

“Why is it that never does the animals take more than they need, yet let the humans hunt and they kill just to be killing. Shouldn’t we learn from our animal family?” Geronimo said to the white man General Miles.

“Why should you care, you are living on the run?: answered General Miles.

“I care, because that is who I am. Just as it should be who you are. Learn from the animal and you will be wise.” “You make no sense. Just as Cluster said,” The only good injun is a dead injun.”  “You only say that because you fear us. As we, at times, fear you.”

“I have no fear.”

“A wise man knows when to show fear and when to defy it.”

“Are you calling me a fool injun?”

“No only telling you what you what I believe is the truth.”

Underneath the trees we flow.Above the rocks we love to move.Along the bends we turn to move.Between to different pieces of landsInto waterfalls we turn to showOver the world we flow to provide lifeBy dawns early light we like to glisten and shine. As the sun shines we like to warmAmong us we follow the world around We are the streams that is life.

“Wild Animals”Hiss went the hissing snake to the mouse.Buzz went the buzzing bees as they work.Ho ho ho went the owl as he went to sleep.Whoosh went the horses as they went over the waterfall. Fluttering binds like to chirp as they move around the

forest walls.Splash went the fish in the streams as they play around.Rattling comes from the ground where the rattle snack

likes to lay in wait.Bawl went the new born buffalo in the prairie.

“Peace on Earth”FoodPeopleWaterAnimals

First, you need to have the animals living in harmony. Then you have to have the food to feed the animals. You will also need the water to make things grow. Last you need to add humans to balance the chain of life. To make sure that everything and everyone has what they need at all times. That’s how you make peace on earth.

Is the past really the past?Looking back on all theseYears and seeing how the pastIs always brought upLike when the first NativeAmerican saw the first White person. The Native American was out hunting For the buffalo when he spottedThe sails to the British Ships and thought it was the cloudsMoving into the land and He was scared, so he ran to hisVillige to tell the News. The village chief was Extremely upset at the News. Though they soon found out thatIt was not cloudsIt was a ship or boatIt was still scary to themBut they soon got use to itAnd here we are todayLiving in the same place as they did Only we are wiser noTo the things that were going on with them.

Long ago when everythingWas still so young there lived aWise old owl who Knew every thing there was toKnow and he wouldPass on his knowledge to thoseWho came to ask for it.He would tell them all only A little of what he knew For he was a wise owl whoKnew if he told someoneEverything he knew that things would Never be the sameAs they have always been for heNever wanted things to changeSo he kept all of his knowledgeTo himself, all but theSmall things he told others aboutUntil the day he died

Dear Grandma,

I wish you were here. I wish you could see me now. You would be so proud of me. I’m going to prom in April. I turn 17 this year. Scotty is in football way Gina got married 2 years ago to Jason. Sheena finally left Mike and is living at home with all of us. I’m dating a guy named Trey right now. Plus I’m joining the National Guard come next summer. I got invited to go to Spain and Italy for the summer this year. I found out that I have IBS. It scares mom and dad because they can’t do anything about it. Scotty might have it too. Scotty starts high school and Nickey starts kindergarten. Mom is excited about me going to prom. Dad got two new tattoos since you died. One of them is a memorial to you and the other is a symbol of his love to mom. I got my belly button pierced and am going to get a tattoo here soon. Scotty got his ear pierced and Sheena got her lip pierced. It’s been a weird six years since you left us. We miss you a lot. Jonathan has gone a little crazy and Nick is married and has two kids. We lost Aunt Betty this past winter. I have lost all contact with my mom’s side of the family because of what they did to me. I wish I could have told you everything that has happened to me. It’s hard knowing that I’ll never see you again. I use to cry myself to sleep at night because I missed you so much. I use to wait for the phone call you promised. I finally learned to cook. Funny isn’t it that you tried for years and it never worked? Yeah me and Drew use to date just like you said we would. I still hate to eat, but I’m healthier than I use to be. I wish you could have been here when Nandal died so that you could have helped me though it. I’m taller than you now. I still talk to you when I’m sad and can’t talk to anyone else. I love thinking that maybe you can hear me talking to you. I don’t think it’s just me either. The family still tells funny stories about when we were all growing up with you around. I still sing when I’m by myself. I’ve gotten better or so I’m told whenever someone catches me. I know people think I’m crazy for talking to you, but to me your still here. We wonder sometimes, you know, as to why you had to leave us so soon. We can’t help but feel anger and hate about that. We wonder if it’s fair to blame God or not but it’s hard not to at times. We love you so much. We miss you still.

Love,Angel

(Phyllis)

She was such a thing of beautyAs I saw her standing there I knew that to win her love Would be something quite rareHer eyes so blue, and hair like the sun But she have me, a warrior so boldI felt shivers that were quite coldMy love for her was strong and trueWould her heart be mine, too?She looked at me with eyes so bright As i stood there in the pale moonlightAnd as she turned I saw in her eyesThat she loved me too, and I felt so wiseFor to have this women's loveWas to be soaring like an eagle aboveI will cherish until my dying dayBecause as a warrior... that is my way.

Child of the mighty wolfGrowing so strong and braveOmens will guide your heartDreams will carry your feetWhile time leads your pathAnd your heritage: your soulClimb the mountains to the skyon wings of courage, you can flyYour life-circle will be completeWhen your omens and dreams sleep A wild spirit bravely goes before you Child of the mighty wolf

As the clouds move in the ski I listen to the Indians criesIt hurts my heart and tears at my soulHow can the whites be so cold?Do they not care what they have done? Can't they hear the cries of the little ones? One by one their fading awayTheir land was taken in a passing dayBut I want you to know that someone does

careI wish I could have only been there.

Animal spiritWhat are you to me?Are you that powerful being within me?Are you there where even my eyes cannot see? Show yourself to me, I pleadCome to me when you know I am in need Are your eyes so like mineThat I have seen you in my lifetime?Animal spirit To you I am boundAs the sky to the groundI call to you, yet I hear not a soundIs it me you surround?Animal spiritForever, together, are we truly bound?Animal spiritWhat part of me have you truly found?
