Happy Fourth Sunday of Easter! Alleluia! He is Risen! Al-leluia! Indeed, He is Risen! Alleluia! Our world continues to be on hold as we look forward to a change and loosen-ing of restrictions and finding a new path in following our Lord Jesus.

One of the challenges we all face, whether it is Fr. Steve and I, the parish leadership, or each individual family and member of our community is: How do we continue to grow in our faith? I am going to use our word from Katie Warner’s book “A Parent Who Prays” to help me share some good news. Families have been using this book throughout the year and each week she shares with us a word/virtue to challenge families to know Jesus better and share His love with each other through the gift of prayer.

Last week, the word was “Knowledge” and this week we have “Evangelization”. Evangelization is one of those words we have heard a lot about during these last few years. It began to become a bigger part of the Catholic vocabulary when Pope St. Paul VI wrote the powerful Apostolic Ex-hortation “EVANGELII NUNTIANDI” and then the continued blessing of Pope St. John Paul II call to sharing the good news with the world. Uno de los desafíos que todos enfrentamos, ya sea el Padre Steve o yo, el liderazgo de la parroquia, o cada familia individual es: ¿Cómo continuamos creciendo en nuestra fe? Voy a usar nuestra palabra del libro de Katie War-ner "Un Padre y Una Madre que Oran" para ayudarme a compartir las bue-nas noticias. Las familias han estado usando este libro durante el año y ca-da semana tiene una palabra / virtud para conocer mejor a Jesús y compar-tir su amor entre ellos a través del don de la oración.

La semana pasada, la palabra era "Conocimiento" y esta semana tenemos "Evangelización". La evangelización es una de esas palabras de las que hemos escuchado mucho durante estos últimos años. Esta palabra comen-zó a convertirse en una parte más importante del vocabulario católico cuan-do el Papa San Pablo VI escribió la poderosa Exhortación Apostólica "EVANGELII NUNTIANDI" y luego la bendición continua del llamado del Papa San Juan Pablo II a compartir las buenas nuevas con el mundo. Compartimos a Jesús y nuestra relación con él, lo hacemos con todas las personas, familiares, amigos, veci-nos y extraños por nuestras acciones y palabras. Papa San Pablo Vi, escribe: La Buena Nueva debe ser pro-clamada en primer lugar, mediante el testimonio. Supongamos un cristiano o un grupo de cristianos que, dentro de la comunidad humana donde viven, manifiestan su capacidad de comprensión y de aceptación, su comunión de vida y de destino con los demás, su solidaridad en los esfuerzos de todos en cuanto existe de noble y bueno. Supongamos además que irradian de manera sencilla y espontánea su fe en los valores que van más allá de los valores corrientes, y su esperanza en algo que no se ve ni osarían soñar. A través de este testimonio sin palabras, estos cristianos hacen plantearse, a quienes contemplan su vida, interrogantes irresistibles: ¿Por qué son así? ¿Por qué viven de esa manera? ¿Qué es o quién es el que los inspira? ¿Por qué están con nosotros? Pues bien, este testimonio constituye ya de por sí una proclamación silenciosa, pe-ro también muy clara y eficaz, de la Buena Nueva. Hay en ello un gesto inicial de evangelización. Son posi-blemente las primeras preguntas que se plantearán muchos no cristianos, bien se trate de personas a las que Cristo no había sido nunca anunciado, de bautizados no practicantes, de gentes que viven en una socie-dad cristiana pero según principios no cristianos, bien se trate de gentes que buscan, no sin sufrimiento, algo o a Alguien que ellos adivinan pero sin poder darle un nombre. Surgirán otros interrogantes, más profundos y más comprometedores, provocados por este testimonio que comporta presencia, participación, solidaridad y que es un elemento esencial, en general al primero absolutamente en la evangelización (#21)

Evangelization can be easily defined as spreading and teaching the Gospel message. How we do that is by knowing the Gospel but more importantly knowing Jesus Christ. Knowing who Jesus is a journey of life. Like the first disciples we are called to spend time with Jesus, in prayer, conversation with others and study, and then share this relationship with others.

We share Jesus and our relationship with him we do so with all people, family, friends, neighbors and strangers by our actions and words. Pope St. Paul Vi, writes, “Above all the Gospel must be proclaimed by witness. Take a Christian or a handful of Christians who, in the midst of their own community, show their ca-pacity for understanding and acceptance, their sharing of life and destiny with other people, their solidarity with the efforts of all for whatever is noble and good. Let us suppose that, in addition, they radiate in an alto-gether simple and unaffected way their faith in values that go beyond current values, and their hope in some-thing that is not seen and that one would not dare to imagine. Through this wordless witness these Christians stir up irresistible questions in the hearts of those who see how they live: Why are they like this? Why do they live in this way? What or who is it that inspires them? Why are they in our midst? Such a witness is already a silent proclamation of the Good News and a very powerful and effective one. Here we have an initial act of evangelization. The above questions will ask, whether they are people to whom Christ has never been pro-claimed, or baptized people who do not practice, or people who live as nominal Christians but according to principles that are in no way Christian, or people who are seeking, and not without suffering, something or someone whom they sense but cannot name. Other questions will arise, deeper and more demanding ones, questions evoked by this witness which involves presence, sharing, solidarity, and which is an essential ele-ment, and generally the first one, in evangelization.” (#21)
