Borlänge is Dalarnas youngest city and is just over 60 years old. But the site dates back to the Iron Age. Today, Borlänge has 47,000 residents and is a meeting place, in terms of business for both the future and the past.
In Borlänge is a mix of old and new. From Jussi Björling to Mando Diao. Old handicraft knowledge and industrial tradition meets new
technologies. From iron factories to college and high technology. Mature built-up areas are mixed with modern architecture. From Ornässtugan (Museum) to Futuristic valleys. We are proud of our heritage, which brought us to where we are today. Some call it bruksanda (conservative spirit).
We call it ambition.

Frostbrunnsdalen (Nature Reserve)Frostbrunnsdalen is a nature reserve consisting of a 1100 m long and 20 m deep valley on Tunaslätten.
The goal with the reserve is to give Frostbrunnsdalen’s rich flora and fauna a possibility to survive, to prevent and stop overgrowing which leads to an impoverment of plant and animal life, to make some parts of Fortsbrunnsdalen accessible to people and to preserve cultural values.
In the 17th Century, a bathing facility was here, later on a soda factory with the spring water as raw material, and today it serves as the municipal water supply. Lush verdure, birds and unusual insetcs.
Available in the summertime.
Gyllbergen Nature ReserveGyllbergen is Borlänges largest nature reserve consisting of 1020 hectares - a wilderness of fine hiking trails. The reserve was formed in 1982 mainly to protect the area. There are two unusual plants in the area, the Alpine Blue-sow-thistle and the Deer Fern. In the spring, you can see the Crane, Whimbrel and Wood Sandpiper. During the winter, the Golden Eagle and the
Northern Hawk Owl have also been seen here.
In winter, there are about 60 km of prepared trails for skiing. In the area, there are 23 peaks over 400 meters. Vildmarksleden (trails) is 30 km and passes through five old mountain dairies, shelters and resting cabins which are open all year round. Popular destinations are Prästbodarna, Dragberget and Spånsans fäbodar. Available year round.25 km från Borlänge+46 243-740 00, 745 37www.borlange.se/gyllbergen

Per Gynts CavePer Gynt Cave is a kilometers walk from the village Holback. According to legend, Per Gynt was a reputable mountain man in the late 1400’s. Unfortunate circumstances occurred and he became a highway man and lived in the cave. He attacked and murdered travelers along the road between Falun and upper Dalarna. Today, the place is called “Mogan” - Mordgatan (Murder Road). Just above the cave lies “Fläckegalgan” where Per Gynt was finally hanged.
Follow route 70 towards Mora and exit towards North Amsberg. After about 1.5 kilometers, there is a wooden sign referring to the cave. You can park at a farm and walk about a kilometer to the cave along a the marked path. Borrow one of the walking sticks which are available for visitors.www.borlange.se/pergyntsgrotta
