    The Embassy English in Action program provides you with

    an excellent opportunity to improve your English skills

    outside the classroom. This unique experience allows

    you to improve your English skills in everyday, real world

    encounters with native and uent English speakers.

    Placements are designed to maximize your opportunities

    to practice a wide range o English skills and to oer you

    urther insight in to American culture. Our job at Embassy

    is to support you both beore and during the placements

    with useul preparation and access to our riendly sta, and

    on successul completion o the program we are pleased to

    present you with a Certifcate o Completion.

    Please remember that the purpose o the program is not

    to obtain employment or to receive job training or work

    in a specifc or new feld, and although requests regardingproessional interests may be taken into consideration,

    we cannot guarantee the type o industry, host organization,

    position, or location.

    Please read through the remainder o this booklet or

    additional details about this rewarding program. We look

    Pre-Arrival

    Embassy requires that you schedule a telephone interview

    with us prior to arrival. The purpose o the telephone call is

    to determine that your English level is appropriate, ensure

    that your goals and the goals o the English in Action

    Program are the same, discuss your expectations with

    regards to the placement, discuss the reality o placement

    possibilities within felds o interest and make you aware o

    any immigration criteria that you should be aware o with

    regards to this program.

    On Arrival

    Once you arrive at the Embassy Center, you must meet with

    the English in Action Coordinator at least our weeks prior to

    your scheduled placement.

    You will be coached regarding conventional Americanetiquette. Introductions are typically scheduled within

    two weeks prior to the start o your placement. Once

    an organization expresses a willingness to host you, an

    appointment is scheduled. There are no guarantees.

    Students can be rejected. The EIA Coordinator should be

    contacted within 24 hours with an update rom the host

    organization. Depending on the circumstances, i you are

    not accepted by a host organization you may be introduced

    to a second potential host, you may be placed in class, or

    you may be reunded the cost o the program. Embassy

    guarantees one placement or you.

    During the term o your placement, you are required to

    complete and e-mail a weekly status report to the attention

    o the EIA Coordinator each Friday aternoon. During the

    last week o your placement you should complete and email

    your fnal report. You will receive a Certifcate o Completion

    once we have this fnal report rom you.

    QuestionsWhat will I be expected to do?

    You should expect to take every opportunity to practice

    your English skills while at your placement. It is up to you to

    make the most o your time while you are with your host.

    Will I meet my host before placement?

    Yes, you will be introduced in person to one potential host

    organization. Occasionally, more than one meeting will be

    required beore you are accepted or a placement. Decisions

    regarding a second meeting are at the sole discretion o the

    EIA Coordinator. Sta in the school will assist you with the

    whole process.

    Will I practice speaking at the placement?

    Yes! There should be ample opportunities to

    practice speaking.

    What happens if I do not like my placement?

    From time to time, despite all our best eorts, a host ails to

    provide the experience that they promised. In such a case

    we will make every eort to fnd you another placement

    as quickly as possible or alternatively place you into an

    Embassy course.

    What level of English should I have?

    By the time you begin your placement you need to be at

    an Upper-Intermediate level, as you will need to be able to

    communicate easily and understand when people talk at

    normal speed. I your English level is not sufciently high

    at the start o your placement, you can choose to deer

    the placement and do some additional weeks o language

    training to reach the required level.

    When am I expected to be at my placement?

    Your schedule will be established with the host and can

    involve exible hours. Your placement will be between 20

    and 40 hours per week.

    How will my English language progress be monitored

    during the placement?

    You will be asked to submit a weekly report to the school,

    and sta will be available regularly to review and discuss

    your EIA experience.

    Why not just do a general English course and get a par

    time job and get paid for it?

    Students cannot legally work in the USA or Canada under

    this type o program.

    Do I need health insurance?

    Yes. StudyCare Insurance is required or all EIA students at

    least or the term o the program. Our host organizations

    have reviewed the StudyCare coverage and determined

    it to be the best and most comprehensive. StudyCare is

    thereore mandatory or the period o your placement.

    Guidelines within DHSAll USA English in Action students must comply with the

    Department o Homeland Security by doing the ollowing:

    EIA students must successully complete their English

    course on an F-1 student visa.

    The EIA placement takes place during the 60 day grace

    period immediately ater the last day o class. In order to

    be eligible or the grace period, EIA students must have

    80% or higher attendance at the end o their course.

    Students who do not maintain the minimum 80% required

    attendance will not be permitted to participate in the EIA

    program.

    EIA students who take a our week placement are only

    allowed to stay in the USA or the remaining part o the 60

    day grace period (counting rom the last day o classes atthe school) ater they have completed their placement.

    EIA students who take an eight week placement are not

    allowed to take a grace period ater the placement is over.

    Such students must return home, return to classes or

    transer to another school.

    EIA students who plan on transerring to another school

    ater the completion o their placement must contact the

    other school during the 60 day period while they are taking

    the placement to begin their transer process.

    EIA students who wish to return to school ater the

    placement must do so ater their placement is completed

    or beore the 60 day grace period is over, whichever is

    frst.

    EIA students are not eligible or vacation breaks during

    their EIA program.

    In case o a delay in placing a student with a host the

    student will continue to take classes until the start o the

    placement.

    EIA students must make every eort to succeed in the

    placement. I an EIA student is not able to continue their

    placement due to unresolved issues, the student mustreturn to school and attend classes while they wait or a

    second introduction.

    EIA students are not permitted to leave the country durin

    their placement. I its necessary or such students to

    leave the USA during their program, they must return to

    regular classes or at least two weeks and then they will

    be allowed to resume their placement.

    AgreementDuring the placement, all students must:

    Respect the discipline and the policies o the host at all

    times

    Comply with all host organization rules, regulations and

    operational practices

    Observe the host dress code

    Be punctual

    Behave in a proper, courteous and polite manner to all

    levels o host organization sta, clients and contacts

    Respect cultural dierences and customs

    Not use the telephones or personal calls without

    permission

    Hold a Studycare Insurance policy during the term o the

    placement

    Terms and conditionsEmbassy works with reputable placement providers.

    The purpose o the English in Action program is to provide

    participants with an opportunity to use their English with

    native-English speakers in a natural setting. The purpose othe placement is NOT to obtain employment in the U.S.

    Embassy has sole discretion in the determination o your

    placement. Placements will be based on language ability,

    and the availability o a suitable host. Applicants must

    be willing to accept placements based on these criteria.

    I accepted into this program, Embassy guarantees

    one placement or you. Embassy will do its best to

    accommodate your placement request, but cannot

    guarantee the type o industry, host or location. Most

    placements will require a commute by public transportation.

    As a placement is not a job or training, students cannot

    expect to be paid a salary or wages.

    Students must show a responsible and exible approach

    to resolving any problems or misunderstandings which

    may occur during the EIA placement. However, i there

    is a serious problem, students must inorm Embassy

    immediately. Every eort will be made to resolve the

    problem and preserve the relationship between the student,

    the host and Embassy.

    In the event o an unexpected delay with your placement,

    you are required to continue taking English classes until yo

    are placed.

    All students will be contacted regularly during the placemeby Embassy to monitor progress and any problems. At the

    end o the placement, the student will be asked to complet

    a fnal report and receive a Certifcate o Completion.

    Full payment must be made at least our weeks prior to the

    start o the placement.

    Embassy retains the right to terminate any placement

    without reund in the event o misconduct or ailure to

    comply with any o the terms in this document (English in

    Action Agreement).

    In the event o a serious problem with the placement,

    or the host, Embassy will make every eort to secure a

    replacement position at no extra cost, provided:

    There is a minimum o our weeks remaining o a

    placement o 6 weeks or over.

    Embassy is satisfed that the student has acted correctly

    and responsibly.

    Should Embassy be unable to secure another placement

    or the remainder o your EIA booking, you will be placed

    in class.
