Penske could expand to a three-car team with either Hornish Jr., Allmendinger or Ryan Newman, if sponsorship is found. Jimmy John's comes aboard to sponsor the car for 12 races, supposedly a three-year deal (9-24-2013). SHR expands to four cars in 2014, with Kurt Busch coming aboard (8-27-2013). It was announced before Bristol in August that Childers will leave the #55 MWR team after the 2013 season and be the crew chief at SHR for Harvick (8-23-2013). Harvick was announced as the driver for SHR on July 12th. and the team will switch from #39 to #4. Budweiser announced as the sponsor for 20 races plus the Sprint Showdown in Feb. Stewart said at New Hampshire that they would not expand to a 4th team and Newman would not return to SHR in 2014. Ryan Newman signed a one-year deal to return to SHR for the 2013 season and is a free-agent for 2014. Supposedly Quicken Loans could move with Newman to his new team in 2014. No word if crew chief Matt Borland will stay with SHR or go with Newman. Rodney Childers from MWR is supposedly a candidate (7-12-2013).

Page 3: drivers & teams.docx · Web vie

Newman could go to the #78 Furniture Row Racing team if Kurt Busch moves to another ride or if they start a 2nd team, or to RCR to replace Harvick in the #29 or any other open ride such as EGR or Penske Racing or Roush if those teams decide to expand.

Supposedly TBR will announce its plans for the #36 sometime in late January (1-10-2014). Some rumors had Burton coming over

Daniel Knost has been promoted from race engineer on the #39 team [now #4 team] to crew chief for the #41 (11-19-2013). Kurt Busch announced as the driver of a 4th SHR Chevy starting in 2014. Supposedly the team is looking to use the #00. The owners points for the #39 will go to the #4 car and Harvick as Busch has a past champions provisional to use in the first three races if 2014. Haas Automation will sponsor Busch for the full season. No word on a crew chief (8-27-2013). News broke after the August race in Michigan that Stewart-Haas Racing had offered Kurt Busch a multi-year contract starting in 2014 to drive a 4th car, supposedly the #39 [could use a different car number](8-19-2013). Rodney Childers from MWR is supposedly a candidate (7-12-2013).Newman could go to the #78 Furniture Row Racing team if Kurt Busch moves to another ride or if they start a 2nd team, or to RCR to replace Harvick in the #29 or any other open ride such as EGR or Penske Racing or Roush if those teams decide to expand.

Target will return as the primary sponsor in 2014 (8-13-2013). Montoya is signed thru 2013. Almirola and Smithfield sign three-year extensions thru 2016. Smithfield will be the sponsor for 29 races a year thru 2016 (1-15-2014). Trent Owens named the crew chief. Greg Ebert had been the interim (12-2-2013). Crew chief Todd Parrott was released by the team in October 2013 after being suspended in October for violation of the NASCAR Substance Abuse Policy, Sammy Johns was the crew chief at Talladega. Greg Ebert was the interim crew chief for rest of 2013(10-22-2013). 2014 diecast paint scheme released show Almirola in the #43 in 2014 with Smithfield as the sponsor and the U.S. Air Force returning (10-6-2013). Almirola says he is close to finalizing his deal to stay with the #43 with Parrott returning as crew chief in 2014 (8-31-2013). Almirola signed a 1 year deal for 2013 and could be looking. He could stay in the #43 for RPM or move on, no real rumors out there. Air Force could return since the bill to ban military sponsorships fell thru. No word if Smithfield Foods will return to be the sponsor in 2014 after being the primary and running Petty blue most of the time for 25 races in 2014. Looks like more of the sponsors from 2013 will return in 2014. Bobby Labonte has been offered a job to stay with JTG, but no word what that job is or if he will take it (8-29-2013). One rumor had the team switching to Chevy and hiring Ryan Newman as the driver for 2014 (8-27-2013). Team has supposedly talked to Richard Childress Racing and could form an alliance similar to what RCR has with Furniture Row Racing #78 team and could switch to Chevy (8-12-2013). Allmendinger came in mid-season and ran five races for the team in 2013 to help the team evaluate progress. No word if the team will keep Labonte, bring Allmendinger aboard full time or look for another driver as there quite a few free agents out there. No word which sponsors leave and/or return in 2014. The team was hoping to start a 2nd team in 2013, but that seems unlikely in the near future (7-9-2013)

Steve Addington named the new crew chief, moving over from #14 Stewart Haas Racing. No driver has been named yet, but Addington mentioned Allgaier in his press conference (). Crew chief Nick Harrison left after Kansas in Oct 2013 to go to Richard Childress Racing. Jimmy Elledge took over as the interim crew chief for the rest of the season (10-2-2013). General Manager Steve Barkdoll left the team in Sept (9-18-2013). Harry Scott Jr. took over ownership of the team as of Sept 10, 2013. Justin Allgaier drove in three races and could be the full time driver in 2014 and run for ROTY. Brandt could be the full time sponsor with Allgaier. Supposedly crew chief Nick Harrison and GM Steve Barkdoll, will stay. Supposedly the team will continue its relationships and alliances with Chevrolet, Hendrick Motorsports and Earnhardt Ganassi Racing (8-28-2013). Owner James Finch plans to sell the team or close it down at the end of July 2013. Supposedly there are a couple of suitors: Harry Scott, who is co-owner of Turner Scott Motorsports in the NNS series and 21984 & 1996 Cup Champ Terry Labonte is also looking into buying the team. If no deal is in place by mid-July, Finch says he will close it down (7-9-2013).

Billy Scott named the full time crew chief. Scott Miller who was the crew chief after Rodney Childers left in August, will resume his job as MWR's Executive Vice President of Competition (12-19-2013). MWR will run Waltrip and Jeff Burton in a few races during the 2014 season running the #66 instead of the #56. Waltrip will run the Daytona 500 and Burton's first race is at Las Vegas. After that nothing announced (12-2-2013). Michael Waltrip Racing announced it will downsize to a two-car full-time team in 2014, dropping the #56 which lost NAPA sponsorship after the Richmond scandal (10-14-2013). Scott Miller will stay as the full-time crew chief (10-14-2013). Vickers was diagnosed with blood clots in his leg again in Oct 2013 and missed the final five races of the season. Vickers, the team and the doctor expect him to return to run the full 2014 season in the #55 car (10-14-2013). Crew chief Rodney Childers was removed as crew chief after Bristol when he announced he would leave MWR at end of 2013 and go to the #4 SHR team (8-23-2013). Vickers named the full time driver for 2014-2015 with Aaron's as the sponsor for two full-seasons. MWR is signed with Toyota thru at least 2014.(7-13-2013).

Waltrip will run in the Daytona 500, Nemechek at Phoenix in March and Burton at Las Vegas. Burton will run in 6-8 races. Nemechek in 26-29 and Waltrip could run a few restrictor plate races in addition to the Daytona 500 (2-1-2014). Burton will start his broadcast career in 2014, doing NASCAR reports on NBCSN and then as a full-time analyst on NASCAR races when NBC takes over the Sprint Cup Series broadcasts in the 2nd half of the 2015 season (12-3-2013). MWR changes car number from #56 to #66 and announced that Jeff Burton will drive a part time schedule in 2014, starting at Las Vegas in March. Michael Waltrip will drive the car in the Daytona 500 (12-2-2013). Jeff Burton is rumored to drive this car part time in 2014, no word how many races or a sponsor. MWR could change the car number from #56 (11-1-2013). Michael Waltrip Racing announced it will downsize to a two-car full-time team in 2014, dropping the #56 which lost NAPA sponsorship after the Richmond scandal. Truex Jr. was told he is free to look for another ride for the 2014 season and will move to the #78 Furniture Row Racing ride. Many indications are that NAPA will sit out the 2014 season and re-think it's sponsorship deals. Waltrip is scheduled to run at least one race in the #56 in 2014, at the Daytona 500. The team will now be MWR's R&D team and run a limited schedule (10-14-2013). Crew chief Chad Johnston asked for his release

after the 2013 season (10-6-2013). After being booted out of the 2013 Chase when the other two MWR teams were found guilty of manipulating the outcome of the Richmond race by pitting to lose spots and spinning out to cause a caution, NAPA decided to rescind its sponsorship at the end of the 2013 season. Supposedly the NAPA Sponsorship will go to Stewart-Haas Racing, but no idea which team (9-9-2013). NAPA and Truex Jr. re-signed thru 2015, no word on any changes on the team in 2014. All indications are that NAPA will not come with Truex Jr. and not likely to be a team sponsor in 2014(10-17-2013). Truex Jr. is rumored to this ride after MWR announced it would not run the #56 team full-time in 2014. Supposedly NAPA would not come along with Truex Jr and may site out a year as a sponsor in NASCAR (10-14-2013). Supposedly the team is turning towards a younger driver and Blaney is at the top of their list, if he can get out of his Penske contract (9-19-2013). Montoya will leave NASCAR for a full time ride in Indycars with Team Penske. No word on other drivers who may get this ride in 2014 (9-16-2013). Will stay aligned with Richard Childress Racing in 2014 (9-14-2013). Montoya visited this team on Sept 4th, no word if he will drive the car or not. Jeff Burton is a free agent but he said he has not talked to any teams yet about a 2014 ride. Ryan Newman was an early rumored driver for this ride after Busch announced he would leave at the end of the season. But all indications are that his deal is done to replace Burton in the #31 Chevy for 2014 (9-5-2013). Kurt Busch will leave after 2013 season and go to a 4th Stewart-Haas Racing Chevy. No word yet who will drive this car in 2014, Newman is the only one in the rumor mill (8-27-2013). RCR is hoping to retain its technical alliance with Furniture Row Racing. Currently FRR is weighing its options with other manufacturers since its contract with Chevy runs out at the end of 2013. Toyota has visited FRR in Denver but nothing has been formalized either way. FRR principals have put their driver selection on hold until after the manufacturer decision has been made. Indications are that Newman will head to RCR in the #29 Chevy (8-12-2013). Mark McArdle, who was director of racing operations at Richard Childress Racing as well as competition director at Furniture Row Racing, has moved to RCR full time. He will continue to report to RCR competition director Dr. Eric Warren (8-10-2013). 2004 Cup Champ Kurt ran the 2013 season for the team and could return in 2014 or Busch could move to a larger multi-car team such as Richard Childress Racing in the #29 or to Michael Waltrip in the #55 car. FRR could also start a 2nd team in 2014, but that

Been told the team will return in some form in 2014 and switch to Chevy (10-28-2013). Made a few attempts on 2013 with Riggs and was mainly a start & park. No word on 2014 plans but as of late 2013, all indications are that this team has shut down operations (10-12-2013)

After making a few races and attempts in 2012, the team worked out a deal with Brain Keselowski (Toyota) and GoGreen Racing (Ford) to run a few races under the #52. Keselowski has his own team for 2014, the #92 Ford and GoGreen Racing merged with the #32 FAS Lane Racing team to become the #32 Go Fas Racing team for 2014. No word what Hamilton-Means Racing plans are, if any (1-10-2014). GoGreen Racing tested a #52 Ford at Charlotte in December with Jeffrey Earnhardt. No word on plans for the team. Looks like Brian Keselowski will switch to a different car number like #92 or #29 and run a limited schedule in a Ford (12-15-2013). Ran a hand full of races in 2013 as some sort of a collaboration between HMR / GoGreen Racing / Brian Keselowski Motorsports. Paulie Harraka ran the car at Sonoma as part of GoGreen Racing. Morgan Shepherd ran the car as part of Brian Keselowski Motorsports (7-12-2013).
