-William Hurt was offered role of Dr. Grant as well as Harrison Ford.-This was Attenborough’s first acting role in 15 years.-Crichton’s book circulated through six studios and directors before getting picked up.-Tim Burton and Richard Donner both wanted to direct it at times.-The glass on the dashboard of the SUV was made to ripple by using a guitar string attached to the underside of the dash covered by glass.-Spielberg was worried the CG would like a computer game so he only wanted the herd of Gallimimus’ only to be CG.

- ILM convinced Spielberg with their demo of the T-Rex chasing a herd of Galamides.

-Any Shot of a full dinosaur was CG while parts of dinosaurs were animatronics.

-The full-sized Tyrannosaurus weighed 13,000 – 15,000 pounds-A scene that got cut had the kids riding a baby Tyrannosaurus, which took the FX techs a year to build.-In the egg scene the dinosaur that emerged was supposed to be a Triceratops but was changed to a Velociraptor.-So many wires during the kitchen stalking scene for the dinos that the kids had to step over and around them as it filmed.-Many errors corrected digitally but some stunt people were made to look like the actors. (You can see one in the ceiling scene)-This was the first film to use DTS digital surround sound.-To study the Gallimimus herd the films digital artists had to run a stretch of road with some obstacles with their hands on their chest.

-The pilot flying them off Kauai was the same pilot from the beginning of Raiders of the Lost Ark.-Spielberg was so confident with the film that he started making Schindler’s List and left post production to George Lucas.-Spielberg directed Attenborough, who had beat him for best director when he did E.T. (Attenborough won for Ghandi).-Spielberg originally wanted the raptors to be ten feet tall but scientists said that they weren’t that tall.

- Then while filming a fossil of a ten foot tall raptor was discovered.

-Juliette Binoche ( Dan In Real Life) offered role of Dr. Sattler.-Hurrican Iniki hit Kauai during filming and movie was delayed.

-Only scene not shot on Kauai was when the Rex jumped out and ate the Gallimimus which was shot on Oahu.-All the merchandise in the film was, in some part, actually created to be sold.-Spielberg originally wanted stop motion photography to animate the dinosaurs.-Helicopter used in the film was later involved in a crash in Hawaii.-Briefly held box office record until Titanic came out.-In original ending Grant was going to use the skeleton of the Rex in the lobby as a marionette to crush the Raptors.-Film and book generated so much interest in paleontology that schools saw a record increase in students pursuing the profession.
