The 7th edition of our regiones et res publicae series continues to focus on demographic trends. This time, we will be looking at sub-Saharan Africa, a region which is to experience a substantial demographic leap in the next decade.
As we have previously argued, demographic trends are just one potential indicator of migration flows. However, considering the scope of the demographic developments in sub-Saharan Africa, it is highly likely that we are to witness an increase in migration flows – be it regional or transcontinental.
As is the case with the Middle East and North Africa, an understanding of the population trends of this region will help comprehend the migration dynamics in the coming decade.
This edition was published in collaboration with the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD).
