Are you receiving the “Escondido Weeky” email updates? To update or add an email address, please contact Member Services at [email protected].

Dear Escondido Members,

Escondido has experienced a flurry of activity since the Promotional Membership Program started on May 1. Participation continues to increase at the Club, which is providing positive financial performance against our budget. We are currently positive two net members year to date.

Member events and private events are trending ahead of plan, and Los Guerreros is a perfect example of member participation, with a full field of 72 teams. To the right are details of the Promotional Membership Program, which continues through August 31. Additionally, we want to thank the members who completed the survey, as this feedback will help with future direction of the Club. The survey will also give the Board of Governors additional information as they work with CAR on future turnover of the Club to the membership.

We recognize summer is an active travel time for the membership. As you see best practices at other clubs, please share with us. Our goal is to always improve the Escondido Experience.

Dear Fellow Escondido Members,

Earlier this month, we announced the Promotional Membership that was approved by membership vote. In the weeks since, seven new memberships have occurred, all through real estate transactions. Bruce Cotton, Shanna Thompson, and Glenn Lee tell us there are

many other prospects who have requested additional information. Our Escondido website has been very popular with outside visitors, and within the next few weeks improvements to the website will provide more information on real estate and membership.

As a reminder, this offering allows for 30 new full resident memberships to have dues of $950 per month for their first 36 months and is only available for a limited time. Memberships can be attained by purchasing property in Escondido (house or lot) or by applying for a non-resident membership. We encourage you to reach out to your friends and acquaintances and invite them to take advantage of the promotion.

Inquiries about real estate should be directed to Bruce Cotton and Shanna Thompson with Hideaway Residential Land. Right now, several estate lot houses

and one casita are under construction and available for purchase in the community.

honey ain’t doin’? Well, we have the men for the job. We have a great handyman, Steve Cooley, who can tackle just about any chore. Are your windows dirty? Is your patio or stonework getting that

mildew/mold look? We have an excellent young man, Jason Clausen, who does power washing and cleans windows

inside and out.

If you would like either of these specialists to work up a quote for you, phone Phil, 210.885.3553 or Bill, 325.956.9569 or email

Advance Reservations for Private Member EventsWe are delighted for you to utilize the meeting spaces at the clubhouse as often as you need. Due to the

increasing need for the Library and Private Dining Room for meetings, we ask that you please first contact the Member Services team at 830.598.7800 or [email protected]. You may also contact

Kelly Davis, Director of Sales, at 830.596.2358 or [email protected] to see if the rooms are available and to book them for your meetings in advance. GOLF ReportBrandon Dixon, PGA Director of Golf

LADIES’ MEMBER-MEMBER ResultsEight teams played in the Ladies’ Member-Member May 8–9. The tournament was an eclectic best ball format, which takes the best score over two rounds to produce one 18-hole

score. At the end of day one, Lisa Ruth and Rhonda Kolar posted a score of 62. That was 3 shots better than the three teams that shot 65. However, at the conclusion of tournament play, the team of Katherine Hinds and Dottie Anderson, who shot 68 on day

one, improved by 12 shots to card a 56 and beat the team of Ruth and Kolar by 1 shot. The golf professional staff thanks all the ladies for their participation.

LOS GUERREROS Gentlemen’s Member-Guest ResultsLos Guerreros was held the first weekend in June with a field of 72 two-man teams. Course conditions were amazing, the food and drink were beyond expectations, and

competition in the 12 flights was spirited. On Saturday afternoon, 14 teams qualified for the Shootout. After two Shootout holes, 14 teams were narrowed down to four teams (Ken Willey and Kevin Boscamp, Scott Summers and Rick Barnard, Tim Brown and Bob Lefton, Jeff Bayer and Paul Beale). The final Shootout hole is played from the range, across Pecan Creek to the 18th green. The team of Scott Summers and Rick Barnard sank some impressive putts to claim the title of Los Guerreros Champions. The team of Ken Willey and

Kevin Boscamp finished second, while the team of Jeff Bayer and Paul Beale finished third. The entire Escondido staff would like to thank the members and their guests for participating.

One-Minute LESSONBuck Mayers, Director of Instruction

SAND PLAYOne of the scariest shots in golf can become one of the simplest! The set-up is by far the most important ingredient to becoming a good bunker player. First, get the majority of your weight on your front foot, with your nose on top or in line with the ball (ball position). Next, the ball position and handle should be slightly forward of belly button. Your aim should be slightly open to target to accommodate an open

club face (exposes the bounce of the club head). All of these are critical to the success of sand play.

The best thing about the swing is that it remains the same. Make your normal swing and hit 2/3 inches behind the ball. Yes, you get to hit it fat on purpose! Reminders: stay on your front foot; finish your follow-through; and never, ever try to help it up! Easy game ...

COURSE ConditionsKevin Thompson, Golf Course Superintendent

The golf course maintenance team would like to thank the members for your continued support and patience during another interesting spring. The amount of May rainfall added to the many challenges we face as the golf course transitions from winter to spring.

With all the moisture, it was a continuous fight to control disease on the greens and the fairways. Additionally, we had to repair washed-out bunkers and granite gravel paths. The summer temperatures arrived just in time to help us with growth and allowed us to provide excellent playing conditions for Los Guerreros.

Summer aerification is scheduled for July 6–13. The golf course and practice facility will be closed and will reopen on Tuesday, July 14. This aerification is one of the most aggressive of the year, and it may take 10 to 14 days for the greens to heal completely. We appreciate your patience.

PARENT-CHILD EVENTSunday, July 5Teams will compete in a two-person scramble. There will be two flights: children 18 and under and children over 18. Members are encouraged to pair up with another team and enjoy a spirited family competition.
