What do global exploration, Gothic architecture, English literature, printing, Islam, the nation-state, and the idea of romantic love all have in common? They all began in the Middle Ages or the Renaissance!
With the MRS minor, you can choose from a wide array of courses - including literature, history, history of science, music, and art - to explore this exciting time-period.
The Center for Medieval & Renaissance Studies seeks to enrich the intellectual environment at the University of Oklahoma by supporting faculty and students interested in interdisciplinary exploration of a fascinating period: the Middle Ages (500-1500) and Renaissance (1500-1700).
A division of OU's College of Arts & Sciences, the Center for Medieval & Renaissance Studies organizes public lectures (co-sponsored with the Medieval Fair) and other events. Presentations & DemonstrationsArthurian Order of Avalon: The mission of the Arthurian Order of Avalon is to educate its membership and audiences in Arthurian ideals, history and culture in order to instill, preserve and promote concepts of Chivalry, Courtesy, and Honor. Visit their educational tent to see member projects or watch them perform at the human combat chess game (AOA) Celtic Caterer: Chef Eric W. McBride presents demonstrations on the cooking and flavors of the 8 Celtic nation (Celtic Caterer Tent)
City of Norman Citizens CORPS: Educational exhibits on the black plague and medieval medicinal practices to current health threats and prevention. (#402)Company of the Yeoman Guard: Living history presentations regarding weaponry and military structure of the middle ages. You can even test your own fighting skills against one of the guards. (at Royal Court)Confucius Institute at the University of Oklahoma: A non-profit partnership with Beijing Normal University dedicated to the development of Chinese language education and cultural and business exchange with the People’s Republic of China. Schola St. George: The Schola Saint George is a non-profit school of chivalric martial arts dedicated to promoting the study of Historical European Martial Arts / Western Martial Arts historical fighting systems through research, training, and competition. (Schola)Society for Creative Anachronism: A world-wide non-profit organization whose purpose is to recreate life in the Middle Ages for the enlightenment and education of others.
