พจนของคานาม

คานาม 2 รป คอ รปเอกพจน (Singular) และรปพหพจน (Plural)

คานามทมรปเอกพจน แสดงวา สงของทพดถงมเพยงสง เชน A pen, one pen (ปากกาหนงดาม) a pupil, one pupil

(เดกนกเรยนหนงคน)

คานามทมพหพจน แสดงวา สงของทพดถงมอยหลายสง เชน Two pens (ปากกาสองดาม) two pupils (นกเรยน

สองคน)

Uncountable Nouns คานามนบไมได

คานามนบไมไดเปนเอกพจนเสมอ คอไมมรปพหพจน เราไมสามารถใช a (one), two, three, four, etc. วางหนา

คานามประเภทนได สวนมากไดแกนามทเปนชออาหาร ของเหลว ผงหรอเมดละเอยด เนอโลหะ และคานามทขนตนดวย ‘’

การ’’ หรอ ‘’ความ’’

คานามนบไมไดทพบบอยๆ คอ

คานามทสตว เมอใชเปนนามนบได หมายถง สตวชนดนน ๆ เปนตว ๆ ถาใชเปนนามนบไมไดจะหมายถงเนอของมน เชน

นามนบได นามนบไมได a chicken ไก a buck เปด a fish ปลา

Chicken เนอไก Duck เนอเปด Fish เนอปลา

ยกเวน ชอสตวตอไปน มคาสาหรบใชบอกเนอของมนตางหาก

นามนบได นามนบไมได

An ox วว A sheep แกะ A pig หม

Beef เนอวว Mutton เนอแกะ Pork เนอหม

และใหสงเกต

นามนบได นามนบไมได

A lemon ลกมะนาว Lemonade นามะนาว

ในความหมายทเปนนามนบไมได กสามารถใชเปนพหพจนไดตามปกต

My gardener has five chickens. คนสวนของฉนมไก 5 ตว

There are two fish in the bowl. มปลา 2 ตวในอาง

(Fish ไมเปลยนรปเมอเปนพหพจน)

การกาหนดปรมาณของนามนบไมได

เนองจากคานามนบไมไดมรปพหพจน การกาหนดปรมาณจงตองอาศยคาอน เชน piece (ชน), grain (เมด) หรอระบ

ภาชนะรองรบ เชน glass (แกว), bowl (ชาม) ,jug (เหยอก) หรอใชวธบอกนาหนก เชน pound (ปอนด),kilo (กโล), liter (ลตร)

ฯลฯ

กบนาตาล เราอาจใช
