  • 2. OUR CHRONICLE A unique status1990 is the year when our educational institution was founded. It got a unique status of the Orphanage School with Profound Study of English being the only one of this kind in Russia. Since then that it has been pursuing a noble aim of bringing up, giving social protection, educating and socializing orphans together with kids from regular families giving them a good command of English as an extra chance to secure their future 3

Present-day status2000 A new well-equipped block joined the school building and the orphanage.2007 Our status has changed into The Secondary school with profound study of English with the structural units of an orphanage and a department of additional education, but the essence remained the same. 4
  • 4. Our rewards Our school is a reiterated winner of the Pedagogical achievements contests and the All-Russia contests in the nomination School of the year 5

  • 13. Our team profileThe unity of aims and ideas is of crucial importance forus. It creates the atmosphere of trust, confidence andpartnership, beneficial for teaching. Cooperation with different teachers means a lot for ourteam, especially when making integrated lessons,organizing after-class activities, working in full contact withthe caretakers and parents facilitating the process ofstudying for our kids. 14

Another point is working on a grand scale when thewhole school is engaged in sharing ideas about theProject contests, Songs and poetry festivals, Reportsfrom the lessons and so on.We are especially keen on organizing all kinds ofcreative activities which enable the kids to developtheir individual talents and abilities. 15
  • 15. Our aspiration is to move forward learning effective ways of teaching, which is clearly seen in our motto: Every day in every possible way get better. Never stop half way! All of us attend educational seminars and courses, exchange experience giving and attending open classes, making reports on using effective methods of teaching. We consider our work, especially with the kids from the orphanage,to be a mission which is to be done well, never mind if it takes a lot of our time, nerves and efforts. 16

  • 26. What is motivation like? It is our thoughts and feelings which make us want to do something and turn our wishes into actions. Motivation makes learning successful.   • 28. Integration of knowledge Intersubject integration is becoming extremely actual at the modern stage of educational development which is following the way of knowledge integration. I.A. Zimnyaia Integration of knowledge promotes creation of an integral conception about the world, which is very important for our students. That is why at the lessons of English and German we use theknowledge our students get at the lessons of Literature, History,Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Music and work in contact with ourcolleagues giving integrated lessons. We also pay special attention to the regional component , that is particular knowledge about the city and the district we live in , working on quizzes , posters, booklets, projects and excursions.

Individual approachWhen teaching students we take into account theirmotivation,age,personality,language level,learning style (visual, kinaesthetic; group,individual; reflective, impulsive),learning strategies,past language learning experience. We pay special attention to the orphans, create individual programmes for them to catch up with the class, offer them extra classes and special courses Situational English (for the younger kids) and English in action (for the older ones), organize meetings with native speakers on a regular basis.
  • 30. Effective teaching methods and technologies The main aim of the modern school is to develop abilities of every student. Dmitry Medvedev In order to develop our students personalities as well as theircognitive and creative abilities we practice such effectivetechnologies as: open group work, role and business games, problem solving, simulations, interviews, projects, discussions, remakes, information and multimedia technologies, development of critical thinking technology, artistic and aesthetic educational technologies, research and interactive activity methods. We held a district seminar Project work as a means of developmentof the students creative potential where we shared our experienceand got an extremely favourable response from our colleagues.
  • 31. Te c h n o l o g y o f r e m a k e sAt a district seminar we introduced our know-how, educational remakes technology, which hasnt been described before. Remakes give the students a rare opportunity to develop their abilities as script writers, producers, computer designers, singers, poets and actors alongside with creative usage of the foreign language.Our students enjoy remaking catching episodes from their favourite films and cartoons in order to express themselves.

Our work resultsWe are keen on every kind of creative activities and have always been amongthe winners beginning from Shakespeare festivals and readings, Guidescontests, Poetry festivals, Singers competitions,Do you know the English-speaking countries? contests to The creativemosaics festival.Yastrebov V. was among the winners of the city contestDo you know Scotland? and was offered a free trip to Scotland. We are proud to be chosen to participate in the international festival of childrens creative activities in Finland where we are going to present our productions Anastasia and The sounds of music.
  • 33. Academic activities results We have achieved good results at the National English exams and were named among the best schools at the city conference. The number of students who took this exam in 2009 increased 4 times compared to 2008 with the points varying from 72 to 98, the average point being 87.75 in 2008 and 83.5 in 2009. We are happy that the number of NUMBER OF WINNERS OF THE DISTRICT the winners of the district English QUIZZES quizzes increased from 10 in 2009 up to 15 in 2010.   • 34. International contactsWe develop international contacts with Waldorf school in Germany, annually exchanging students and teachers, and with charity organisations in the US where our orphans have opportunities to spend their holidays improving their English.
