Reading  

Daily

• School reading book, other books from the home and the library – encouraging a wide choice, talking to the child about their reading and their understanding of what they are reading; Children should be read aloud to an adult 3 times a week.

Spellings and/or other Literacy

activity 

Weekly

• Spellings - a list of words which are linked to class literacy lessons, a spelling rule or the child’s own work or a topic being studied in class. The child could be encouraged to look at each word carefully, say it, cover it up, write it from memory and then check it. This process is repeated several times. The words are assessed in class.

• Often the child will be asked to extend the spelling words, e.g. writing sentences and paragraphs including the words, finding out their meaning in a dictionary, etc.

Tables Weekly • Tables - 2x – 12x tables and related division facts.

Literacy and Numeracy

Weekly 

• Literacy: An extension activity to support classroom literacy;

• Numeracy: An extension activity to support classroom numeracy;

Research 

As appropriate• Cross-curricular based extended project making use of books, the library,

internet, own trips out etc.

• September/October 2015:– Read the information in the pack– Find out about local schools - obtain their prospectus– Visit local schools - open evenings, appointments to visit– Submit your application form – ideally on-line

• 31st October 2015:– Deadline for common application form 

Secondary Transfer

New-style SATs• The week beginning Monday 9th May 2016• Reading comprehension test• Writing is a combination of teacher assessed based on

work covered in class.• There will be a grammar, punctuation and spelling test

(GPS).• Three maths papers – arithmetic and two longer

papers – focus is on problem-solving• Preparation programme (Jan. 2015 onwards)• Mock SATs – January and March• Booster Classes (start after the February half-term)

and Easter revision school (29th March hopefully!)

• Not yet had final confirmation

• Expect pass mark to be 100 (equivalent of old National Curriculum Level 4B)

• 100 will be worked out on the national average mark.

• Higher above or below national average will show if children are below, at or above national expected.

• Not sure how progress will be measured for current Years 2, 3, 4 & 5 as they will have been tested using the old ‘NC Levelled’ tests?
