Look who’s back… Yvonne Greer returns to television as the newest member of the WTVP on air team. Consider This with Yvonne Greer is a new talk show featuring the news and newsmakers of the day in a whole new way. The intent is to connect with our leaders, entertainers, and maybe even our neighbors in ways we may have never considered. Did they always want that job? How did they learn to be so self-suf-ficient? What is it about their lives that may inspire me to reconsider some aspect of my own life? Yvonne Greer will be asking those very questions as the host of this new WTVP Production. Each episode will also showcase local arts in an Artist Spotlight segment. Consider This with Yvonne Greer airs Friday nights at 7:30 beginning October 16.

Moving forward together. As WTVP viewers, you have been witness to the great things happening on air. The national PBS schedule has offered incredible documentaries like The Civil War and Walt Disney on American Experience, sweeping dramas like Poldark and Indian Summers on Masterpiece, and thoughtful coverage of national issues on the PBS NewsHour and America After Charleston. Our local productions have met this standard of excellence with new episodes of Illinois Adventure, new seasons of At Issue and The Screening Room, more programs from our collaboration with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra, and an exploration of trans-portation issues in Illinois with the Honorable Ray LaHood and Congresswoman Cheri Bustos. What you haven’t seen is the stellar work going on behind the scenes as WTVP and WILL craft an exciting new partnership. We’ve spent the summer getting to know each other, exploring our strengths, focusing our mission, and identifying community needs. Together we are in a prime position to meet the challenges ahead,
and take advantage of the opportunities in the digital age. We clearly have many assets to build upon, including you, our loyal audience. In the coming months you will see the fruits of these labors in more content of consequence, deeper relationships with our viewers and members, and more opportunities to connect with each other.Thank you for your continued support of WTVP and public media in Central Illinois. We are honored to be a trusted and valued local institution in our community.

Triple the DramaSave your Sundays for the best drama on television. Indian Summers on Masterpiece is joined this month by two more U.K. hits.
Home Fires on Masterpiece, Sun-days at 7 p.m. Oct. 4-Nov. 8
Samantha Bond and Francesca Annis head an extraordinary cast in a mov-ing drama about women in an En-glish village facing the onset of World War II. Bond plays forward-thinking Frances Barden, a born leader with a stubborn streak, while Annis is her antagonist, Joyce Cameron, obsessed with class and tradition. The two are bitter rivals for control of the local Women’s Institute, a nationwide service organization. With war loom-ing, their chapter faces its moment of truth. Will the largely social group shut up shop for the duration, or will it reinvent itself to help the nation in its hour of need?
The Widower, Sundays at 9 p.m., Oct. 4-18
This three-part chilling thriller is the true story of Malcolm Webster (Reece Shearsmith) —a seemingly mild-mannered male nurse who marries, and then attempts to kill, a succession of women to cash in on their life insurance policies. Over a 13-year period, Webster poisons and murders his first wife, attempts to do the same to his second wife and devises a different scheme to deceive his third fiancée.

The BrainThe Brain with David Eagleman, hosted by Dr. David Eagleman, neuroscientist, New York Times best-selling author and a Guggenheim Fellow, reveals the true story of how our brains create the rich and beautiful world around us by blending scientific
truth with innovative visual effects and compelling personal stories. The six-part series exposes the inner workings of the brain and takes viewers on a visually spectacular journey into why they feel and think the things they do. The Brain will air on Wednesdays at 9 p.m., Oct. 14-Nov. 18, as part of the PBS “Think Wednesday” lineup.
With barely a brain scanner or a white coat in sight, The Brain focuses on understanding the fundamental truths of what it means to be human now and in the coming centuries, while communicating these elegant and simple ideas as they apply to us and our experiences.
“In a cubic centimeter of brain tissue there are as many connections as stars in the Milky Way Galaxy. Somehow our thoughts, our hopes, and our dreams are contained in these three pounds of wet biological material,” said Dr. Eagleman. “I hope that when viewers watch The Brain, they will take away the love of science and wonder that make us all unique. I’m honored to present this program on PBS.”

Guitar Heroes
Saturday SpecialWe’re shaking up your Saturday night to celebrate legendary guitarist Eric Clapton and commemorate the centenary of the 1916 Dublin Easter Rising in a brand new theatrical extravaganza from the makers of Celtic Woman.
Join us Saturday, Oct. 17 beginning at 7 p.m. for the world television premiere of The Bloody Irish! Songs of the 1916 Rising. This stunning and unique new musical stage drama is based on the events of the Easter Rising, which took place almost 100 years ago in Dublin. The production features a stellar cast and includes new compositions and arrangements of classic Irish rebel songs. With drama, humor, laughter, pathos and pride, the program brings to life the human story of some of the key indi-viduals behind Ireland’s most famous week in history.
And at 9 p.m., celebrate Eric Clap-ton’s 70th birthday with a concert in London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall. Featuring Clapton performing clas-sics including “Wonderful Tonight,” “Layla” and “Tears in Heaven”, Eric Clapton: Slowhand at 70 captures a momentous night for the legendary performer. The evening is not only an immense celebration for his birthday, it also toasts the artist’s close relation-ship with the Royal Albert Hall itself. Clapton is the first guitarist to reach 200 performances at this beautiful, classic venue.

& A great day for WTVP! We got to officially announce Seunghui Lily Ha as National 3rd Place Winner of the PBS KIDS Writers Contest 2015 at a special prize presentation at Iles School in Springfield. Lily accepted her prizes—a Kindle e-reader with accessories and more books—in front of an enthusiastic audience that included her family, teachers and fellow classmates. It was a fabulous celebration! WTVP thanks Principal Kenyatta Ravelle and Springfield Public School District 186 for welcoming us in to their school and being such strong supporters of their students. We invite everyone to read Lily’s nationally award winning story at wtvp.org.

Sound Bites & Symphony SundaysWTVP and the PSO are offering you a taste of exquisite performances you can enjoy at home with two new Sound Bites with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra. These concert specials feature talented guest artists and Peoria Symphony musicians in performance to a live audience in the WTVP Studio. Each program also includes lively description from Maestro George Stelluto and the musicians themselves.“Piano Parables with Jade Simmons” leads off our premieres Friday, Oct. 2 at 8 p.m. Known for her artistry and inventiveness, Jade’s beguiling stage presence and tangible connection to her audience is surpassed only by her keyboard virtuosity. Her program is a musical adventure inspired by her own journey into the world of classical music from childhood to now, and features Rachmaninoff, Beethoven, Chopin, improv, electronic backup, contemporary rhythms and even audience participation. It’s a walk on the wild side that will add color to the palettes of those who already love classical music, and make newcomers fall in love.
“Music for Four: The Lincoln Quartet with John McMurtery” premieres on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 9 p.m. This celebration of the intimate relationships created and shared by quartets stars four strings from the Chicago Symphony—Larry Neuman on viola, Qing Hou and Lei Hou on violin, and John Sharp on cello. They treat the audience to a parade of beautiful quartets by Hayden, Beethoven, Ravel and Shostokovich. And John McMurtery, principal flutist for the PSO, joins them for a little bit of Mozart.
Following these premieres, make a date for “Symphony Sundays”. Beginning Oct. 18, Sound Bites can be seen weekly on Sundays at 3 p.m.
Sound Bites with the Peoria Symphony Orchestra is a collaboration of WTVP and PSO and made pos-sible by funding from Sid and Flo Banwart. Additional support provided by the Peoria Symphony Guild.
