World War 1- In 1914 the future king of Austria-Hungry (Archduke Franz Ferdinand) was assassinated by a Serbian man

(no one knows who). - Austria-Hungry wanted to start a

war against Serbia!

Choosing Sides • Allied Powers (Serbia’s team): France Belgium,

Russia and Great Britain.• Central Powers (Austria-Hungary’s team):

Germany, Bulgaria Ottoman Empire

May 7th 1915

USA didn’t want to join the war but there were 2 reasons why they did.

1. A German submarine sank a British ocean liner, which killed around 120 Americans.

2. Russia left the war so they went to help them.

1916• They fought and fought and fought in France

for a very long time.• None of them came any closer to winning, and

around 300,000 soldiers died and about 1,000,000 were injured.

February 1917

The Zimmerman Telegram was made.• Germany wanted Mexico to join the war.

• An internal revolution made it that Russia left the war

• So the Allied forces really needed help. So USA joined the Allied Powers

November 11th 1918

• When America joined the war, they managed to push Germany back.

• Because of that, Germany gave up.

Treaty of Versailles

• The treaty said Germany was to blame for the war.

• They had to pay $33 billion.• Children throughout the whole war got

affected. They started having nightmares and being afraid that their house my get bombed.
