Transcript of Work needs a rethink

Every now and thenyou’ll meet someone

who will say...

“I remember when working

life was so much easier.”

“We went to the same place everyday.

We worked 9–5. We went home again.”

“Doing business was about pressing

the flesh...

“...chewing the fat”

“…making the calls.”

And if someone wasn’t in you found

out like this.

“You see, life was a little slower back then but you

knew exactly where you stood.”

Then they’ll say:

“No, no, no. Working life is surely

much better since the advent of…”

And you might say:

...this

...and these

...then this

...and this

...and these

...and these

...and these

...and these

...and all of these

“I mean we’ve got so many more ways to

get the job done now.”

You might add:

The problem with this...

The constant battle with this…

...the constant battle with this

The many times you’ve had to ask

“where’s Dave today?”

All the time trying to remember which

one the document’s stored on…

When it really shouldn’t be saved

on any of them.

Because this is still your official work computer.

All the customers who expect you to deliver a service as

good as this.

When you’re actually delivering a service like this.

And then maybe just maybe, you start to

agree that...

work just isn’t working as well

as it could do.

“What if we could rethink work as we

know it?”

So you say:

“What, like making work easier, more productive and a

better experience for all?”

And they say:

“Yes. Something like that.”

To which you say:

“What if you had everything you needed to get the job

done, there when you need it, wherever you go?”

So they say:

“Like a single, digital workspace in the Cloud so I can work effectively

wherever I choose?”

And you say:

“Yes, just what I was thinking.”

Despite not knowing what the Cloud is, they say:

“Wow, that sounds like a truly unified

communication solution.”

And then someone says:

“We have no idea what that is, but if you want

to call it that you’re welcome to.”

To which you both reply:

“Just imagine what would be possible with

such a thing.”

Then that gets you thinking:

“People working the way they prefer, coming together in an instant to get to

the job done?”

“Yes.”

“People working the way they prefer, coming together in an instant to get to

the job done?”

“Giving customers real choice in the way they

interact with us?”

“Yes, that too.”

“Giving customers real choice in the way they

interact with us?”

“Predictable, per user pricing, and no need for a large capital outlay?”

“Precisely.”

“Predictable, per user pricing, and no need for a large capital outlay?”

“The ability to think differently about how

we use our physical workspace?”

“Righto.”

“The ability to think differently about how

we use our physical workspace?”

“Tapping into new talent and attracting the next generation

of employees?”

“Spot on.”

“Tapping into new talent and attracting the next generation

of employees?”

“Oh dear, we’re forgetting we’ve already got a

mish mash of different technology and contracts.”

“If only there was a partner who could help, wherever

we’re starting from – at a pace that suits our business.”

To which you reply:

“I know just the people.”Only for someone to add:

They call it Unified Communications and

Collaboration.

You can call it whatever you want.

“They call it Unified Communications.”

“You can call it whatever you want.”

Let’s make every business ready for anything
