Willard Helps Mother Earth

Students speak out on ideas for next steps in environmental work for Willard, Ridgewood and the

world.

W

Focus on Trees and Plants...

Alexandra says we can plant more trees.

Maggie suggests that we have weekend plant gatherings at Willard.

Pay attention to living things!  From Ryan: "Either it got knocked down or struck by lighting,

or it gave way from snow.  It was really cool to focus on because the tree was all broken up and I

could observe all the things."

Kyle reminds us that trees help us breathe, and can help the earth.

Plant more plants... Kevin feels that there are some areas that are dirt and could use some plants.  One area is where we eat and get dismissed.

Focus on People...

Ryan asked John, "What do you want to be greener for our school?  I found out that he wanted to change the playground and use

recycled tires.  Maybe getting solar panels for lights in our school."

Focus on Power...

Lights dim or go off if there's no activity in the room

Get solar panels! Use power saving lights.

Focus on Food...

Cameron suggests that we not throw away food.  Eat all of your meal, or save it for later. Let's eat local food and grow food in our garden!

Emily suggests that we have a compost picnic, everything we bring to the picnic can

be composted!

Focus on the Building

Use recycled parts

What else can we use instead of new metal or plastic?  "What

is all of this metal?"

Focus on Litter...

Any litter you see, let's help pick it up.  Every piece you pick up makes a difference.

Go on walks during the school day to pick up litter and garbage.

Focus on Animals...

Try to help animals.  They can loose homes when people cut down trees.  Is Willard a safe place for animals?
