In Design Technology we use the
DESIGN CYCLE as the model that helps us create and evaluate
products/solutions.
The Design Cycle
STAGE 1INVESTIGATE
Identify the problem
Evaluate the importance of the problem for life, society and the environment .
*What do I need to know about my problem?
Develop the brief
Formulate significant questions
that will guide my investigation:
What are the most appropriate materials?
What tools and equipment can I use?
What are the similar existing products?
*Now I can write a brief that describes the solution to my problem!!!!

Design a product/solution.
Produce several design ideas that meet the design specification.
Choose one the best idea and develop it further
Plan a product solution.
*Develop a work plan to create a product/solution that has a series of logical steps.
How much time do I have ? What materials do I need? What tools are available? What steps do I need to follow
to create my product?
STAGE 3 CREATE
Use appropriate techniques
and equipment
CREATEFollow the plan and justify any modifications
Create the product/solution. Keep a process journal To record the process of creation
STAGE 4EVALUATE
Evaluate the product/solution.
Does my product solve the problem?
Does it follow the design specifications?
How can I improve it? What is the impact of my
product/solution on the environment or society?
