MEMORANDUM
To: Operations Committee
From: Betsy Woller
Date: June 15, 2017
Subject: DPAM Polymer Purchase Agreement Extensions Bid#1334
Cationic polyacrylamide flocculant dry polymer (DPAM) is used for thickening of waste
activated sludge in the dissolved air flotation thickening (DAFT) process located in Building 8.
The product is ordered in “super sack” bags consisting of approximately 1500-1700 lbs. each.
The average load is 40,000 lbs and is delivered 2-3 times per year. The current price paid for
DPAM is $1.24/lb, including shipping.
In the fall of 2015, WLSSD solicited bids for DPAM. For the purposes of this bid, only pre-
approved products were accepted, unless otherwise prequalified by performing bench and
performance testing prior to the bid closing date. WLSSD conducts extensive bench testing a
minimum of every (5) years to identify the most suitable polymers. WLSSD would like to extend
the contract for the purchase and delivery of DPAM for (6) months as allowable in the respective
contracts. This would be the second and final six month extension.
Based upon the above information, we recommend that the Operations Committee approve
the recommendation to issue a (6) month extension of the Agreements between WLSSD
and Polydyne, Inc. for purchase and delivery DPAM polymer, as provisioned in our
current contracts.
