How Did We Get Here?

Survey Purpose Target Audience Learnings Next Steps

Strengthen relationship between AASL National and State Affiliates

Timeline Event

June 2014 New Strategic Plan- Goal: Grow and strengthen AASL’s community- specifically the relationship with state affiliates

MW 2015 Facilitated Harwood Exercise: Asking the state affiliates what their aspirations were for the affiliate assembly

Annual 2015 Leadership Conference- content developed from MW Harwood material

MW 2016 New Affiliate Assembly structure developed- to include an aspiration exercise

Annual 2016 Continued “mini” Leadership Conference and follow-up Harwood exercise based on MW15 outcomes

Strengthen relationship between AASL National and State Affiliates

Outcomes:1) AASL and Affiliate become stronger2) Leaders will rise faster3) Concerns will be addressed earlier and have greater impact.

MOST IMPORTANT: As Affiliates are given additional tools and resources (they ask for through their ‘aspirations’) the services they offer to school librarians within their state expands and AASL’s mission to empower leaders to transform teaching and learning is met.
