Dear Parents and Students;
We are excited about the upcoming 2014-2015 school year. Students and parents are invited to visit the classroom and meet the teacher during school orientation, August 15, 2014 9:30- 11:00 am.
Each student will receive school supplies and a backpack donated by our business partner, Cemex. Jenna Emerson the community relations manager with Cemex will be here in the Gymnasium during orientation to hand out the supplies. You may pick up the supplies at the end of your orientation visit.
Looking ahead, we hope you will join and become an active member of our Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and our Student Advisory Council (SAC). Our parents and volunteers are a VITAL part of making school a successful experience for all students. PTO and SAC information will be available in the cafeteria and classrooms. If we can further assist you in the process of preparing your child for school, please let us know.
Sincerely,
Cleamstine Caple

Prevent the
Slide10 ways to prevent Summer Slide
Did you know that children can lose up to three months of academic progress over the summer?
Here are 10 things you can do to help your child avoid the summer slide.
1. Read EVERY day! Read non-fiction, fiction, ebooks, poetry, newspapers and read out loud! For most children, twenty minutes is an appropriate amount of time to read for a child who is an independent reader.
2. Cook with your children. This is one of the best ways to integrate math, reading and following directions
3. Plant a garden. Your children will gain responsibility and pride as they watch their plants grow and thrive.
4. Take a field trip to a museum, zoo or local park with walking trails . Keep a journal about your travels.
5. Learn a new word each week! Hang it on the fridge and see who can use it the most times throughout the week.
6. Enroll in a quality summer program. One that will provide your child with opportunities to build his or her critical thinking skills.
7. Play quick games. Ones with flash cards like, Math War or Concentration to keep math skills sharp.
8. Listen to audio books if you are planning a road trip.9. Take pictures. Make a summer scrapbook.10. Did I mention READ? If your child does nothing else this summer, make sure he/she is
reading!
