INTRODUCTION The visual identity of the municipality defines the Municipality of Red Lake and is a graphical representation of The Corporation of the Municipality of Red Lake, its elected officials and its administration. The visual identity of the municipality presents immediate public recognition of the fact that individuals, events, fleet, and facilities are formally associated with the municipality. This guide will assist in bringing uniformity and professionalism with respect to how the municipality is identified by its staff and the public. This guide is intended to preserve the integrity of the municipality’s identity and ensure consistency in the application of same. Consistent use of the visual identity will visibly communicate the unity and strength of the organization. It is extremely important that this style guide be adhered to when visual identities are being used. ACCESSIBILITY The Municipality of Red Lake is committed to making every effort to provide quality goods and services that are accessible to all persons that the Municipality serves. Accessibility was a key consideration when developing the visual identity and should be considered a priority when creating any and all new communication materials.

MUNICIPAL CREST Elements of the Crest: The origin of the municipal crest was carried over from the former Township of Red Lake. The crest was designed by Gerard P. Van Leeuwen. The interpretation of the crest is as follows:
“The mine “headframe”, pick and gear wheel represent the mining industry which played the key role in developing the Red Lake area by utilizing the mineral resources available here.
The trees, land and water represent those natural resources upon which are based Red Lake’s outdoor recreation such as hunting and fishing and outdoor industries such as logging and trapping.
The float plane is included as a tribute and sign of individuality to Red Lake for, although these machines are rapidly disappearing from the Ontario scene, this area still boasts one of the highest number of float planes found anywhere in Ontario.
The triple maple leaf represents the unity of the varying nationalities which make up the Red Lake community as part of the Canadian “whole”.”
Following amalgamation, the Municipality of Red Lake’s official crest was adopted by Council on August 18, 1998 as the Official Logo for the Municipality. The former Township of Red Lake logo was amended to reflect the “Municipality of” and the “Township of” was removed from the logo.

TAGLINE – “Gateway to Woodland Caribou Provincial Park” In 2001, Council directed that the phrase “Gateway to Woodland Caribou Provincial Park” be included in all future advertisements. This phrase has been included and used on municipal stationery and various promotional material since that time. This tagline may be used as deemed appropriate from time to time at the discretion of the Corporate Communications Officer. MUNICIPAL PIN Elements of the Municipal Pin: The Municipal Pin is comprised of a combination of the Municipal Crest, with the addition of the Norseman float plane through the top and the phrase “The Norseman Capital of the World” in the lower banner. This phrase is a registered Trade-Mark and the municipality has been formally recognized as an authorized user of this phrase. This emblem shall be used on municipal pins, Municipal Service Award coins, and on the backdrop in Council Chambers.

MUNICIPAL LOGO Elements of the Logo: In 2013, the Municipality of Red Lake formed a Branding Committee tasked at creating a municipal logo and brand. The public was invited to submit ideas that truly reflect the value and vision of the Municipality of Red Lake. A number of submissions were received and reviewed. Council accepted the new logo on May 21, 2013. The tagline “Opportunity….it’s our Nature” was accepted by Council on December 16, 2013. The modern logo consists of both the logo and the tagline and these two elements identify Red Lake’s branding. Branding Identity The design incorporates the Municipality of Red Lake’s pillars of sustainability. The logo reflects our commitment to the social, economic, cultural and environmental values that Red Lake embraces. The logo symbolizes our area with its shape. The flowing curved lines represent the fluidity of our area from the moving waters to the pouring of gold. The lines reflect the warmth and friendliness of our residents. The bold block lettering is representative of our strong foundations and strong beliefs in our area.

Branding Colours BLUE represents Red Lake’s natural surrounding of beautiful blue waters and bright blue skies. Blue is also associated with confidence and integrity that permeates our area. GREEN represents Red Lake’s fauna flora and forests and our commitments to sustainable living. The trees also denote growth, change and transformation with the balance. GOLD represents our community’s heart and our natural resource. It also symbolizes our sensational sunrises and sunsets. Gold is also associated with energy, vibrancy, wisdom and success. Branding Shape The stylized canoe shape represents the First Nation’s history, the fur trade industry and our first method of transportation to the area. The stylized flora and fauna shape represent the many varieties of plant growth in the area. The gold wave represents the moving sun and the gold in the ground beneath Red Lake. In harmony, the colours and shape of the logo represent the past, the present and the future of Red Lake.

The full logo with tagline shall be used whenever possible. The logo without the tagline may be used in cases where space will not allow. TYPOGRAPHY Size 12pt Arial font shall be used for all public documents and correspondence. This will ensure that written materials remain consistent and will allow for enhanced accessibility. The minimum font size to be used for public communications is 11pt, and is to be used only when necessary. Other fonts may be used for advertising, printing and web applications so long as the readability of the document is not jeopardized. All fonts should be in black with a light background. White font may be used with a dark/black background. In order to ensure accessibility of the material, there should always be a strong contrast maintained between the text and the background colour. Minimal use of colour is suggested so as to not overwhelm the reader. The use of colour should be restricted to photographs, charts, diagrams, titles, headers and highlighted material. All documents and correspondence shall have justified alignment, which allows for a clean look on both the left and right side of the page. AUTHORIZATION FOR OUTSIDE USE No outside use of the logo is permitted without the authority from the Municipality of Red Lake.
