After one year of consolidation since the parent company acquired this plant, the plant’s management team gathered to develop a consensus about the bold steps needed to further transform the plant.

My role: Design and facilitate the whole workshop

Agenda

Participants split into teams and did some structured warm up activities.

Plant GM, HR manager and finance manager presented 2014 year review and Facilitator captured key points on a visual template.

Participants wrote down their questions about the review and posted them on the window. Similar questions were grouped together and plant management answered them one by one.

The context map was later re-formatted for a better visual effect.

Participants split into teams and generated ideas about things that can be done in 2015.

The ideas of all teams were shared on a gallery, sorted under different categories, questioned and verified, so that all people could then form a shared understanding about the plant’s situation and its future possibilities.

Then they split into teams again and deep dived into different categories of ideas, in order to generate some possible solutions.

There were some rotations so that ideas were pollinated across different teams to trigger new thoughts.

Afterwards, the teams consolidated their ideas into a role play……

Everyone, from the GM to the freshman, had to join.

They used the stationery provided to develop different props.

During the debrief, participants went through the graphic records again.

Finally, they gathered in front of a “five bold steps” plan to decide their key actions in 2015. Facilitator guided their conversations and wrote their conclusions on the plan one by one.

And the bold steps!
