Terry Chong is the co-owner and graphic facilitator of a business called Urban Paintmob, which aimsto create inspiring experience and enhance human interaction with art.

Before joining Urban Paintmob in 2009, Terry had been working in the advertising and eventproduction industry for more than 10 years, in which he served clients from IT, real estate and FMCGindustries. His experience included both working in global advertising agencies in Hong Kong, Beijingand Shanghai, and running an event production company for two years.

Terry promotes to the business sector the usage of art and visual media as a way of team-buildingand training. He is also the translator of David Sibbet’s “Visual Teams”. This book will be published inthe second half of 2015.

Terry received a Bachelor of Social Sciences from the University of Hong Kong, major in Politics andPublic Administration. During leisure time, he loves bouldering, cycling and reading.

Case 1: An industrial summit, Brisbane, Australia

This is part of a government-industry collaboration process to develop the strategy for the coming decade. 300 company owners, managers and industrial experts gathered to talk about a dozen of topics. Their insights were captured, consolidated and formed the basis of the future strategies.

My role: Be one of the visual crew responsible for all the spatial and visual setup

Case 2: Trend mapping workshop, a foreign bank management team visiting China

The bank management team uncovered findings and insights about the trends happening in China.

Case 3: Annual planning workshop, an US manufacturer in Tianjin

After one year of consolidation since the parent company acquired this plant, the plant’s management team gathered to develop a consensus about the bold steps needed to further transform the plant.

My role: Design and facilitate the whole workshop

Participants split into teams and did some structured warm up activities.

Plant GM, HR manager and finance manager presented 2014 year review and Facilitator captured key points on a visual template.

Participants wrote down their questions about the review and posted them on the window. Similar questions were grouped together and plant management answered them one by one.

The context map was later re-formatted for a better visual effect.

Participants split into teams and generated ideas about things that can be done in 2015.

The ideas of all teams were shared on a gallery, sorted under different categories, questioned and verified, so that all people could then form a shared understanding about the plant’s situation and its future possibilities.

Then they split into teams again and deep dived into different categories of ideas, in order to generate some possible solutions.

There were some rotations so that ideas were pollinated across different teams to trigger new thoughts.

Afterwards, the teams consolidated their ideas into a role play……

Everyone, from the GM to the freshman, had to join.

They used the stationery provided to develop different props.

During the debrief, participants went through the graphic records again.

Finally, they gathered in front of a “five bold steps” plan to decide their key actions in 2015. Facilitator guided their conversations and wrote their conclusions on the plan one by one.

Case 4: Customer Centricity Workshop, Global Learning Alliance of a major U.S. business school

A group of top executives from five global companies, ranging from IT to manufacturing industries, from the most retail-oriented to B2B business, visited Chengdu in order to discover insights behind evolving consumer trends.

This intensive two-hour workshop aimed to gather their insights and sparked their imagination of some new business ideas riding on the emerging trends.

A group of managers and engineers gathered to share latest market situations and developed new business ideas that would be carried forward to R&D process.

Case 7: Sketch video with InnoLauncher

This is an initiative to change some content of product development in IT industry, to video for mass public. Each video is about 2-3 minutes, talking about one simple idea, and it is sketched, narrated and edited in the simplest and fastest way.
