UP5_6, an unrivalled icon of Italian design on the international

stage, will be launched in the autumn in an unusual version designed for

children, UPJ. The new Junior version, which is identical to the original except

for being smaller in size, is proposed as a designer armchair that is both comfortable and playful; its attractive shape and its bright red colour will tastefully furnish and enhance spaces dedicated to children.

The latest UPJ will be featured in the Christmas windows in the B&B Italia flagship stores and in the windows of the best points of sale throughout the world, for a Christmas shopping focussing on an exclusive design for children aged 3 years and above.

The Up series designed in 1969 by the eclectic Gaetano Pesce, world famous designer, comprised of a series of seven pieces from the onset, two of which, namely the armchair UP5 with the UP6 ottoman, have become the most recognised of the series over the years and one of the most acclaimed icons of Italian design. A timeless product on the international scene.

A Pop item that expresses all the unashamed energy of the ‘60s, as well as a technological challenges and a deep reflection on the condition of women. The UP5_6 armchair and ottoman is unquestionably a masterpiece of Italian design and a timeless fragment of contemporary art, both for its universal appeal and the outstanding technological

progress it represents. With this large form, a metaphor of the female figure with a warm womb, Gaetano Pesce expressed an entirely personal idea of women:

“I told a personal story of my

concept of women. Despite

themselves, women have always

been prisoners of the prejudice

and fears of men. Along these

lines, I liked the idea of giving this

armchair a feminine shape with

a ball and chain, the traditional

image of the prisoner.”

A work produced in 1969, which is also a social statement, unfortunately still topical today.
