A timeless product on the international scene. A Pop item that expresses all the unashamed energy of the ‘60s, as well as a technological challenges and a deep reflection on the condition of women. The UP5_6 armchair and ottoman is unquestionably a masterpiece of Italian design and a timeless fragment of contemporary art, both for its universal appeal and the outstanding technological progress it represents. With this large form, a metaphor of the female figure with a warm womb, Gaetano Pesce expressed an entirely personal idea of women: “I told a personal story of my concept of women. Despite themselves, women have always been prisoners of the prejudice and fears of men. Along these lines, I liked the idea of giving this armchair a feminine shape with a ball and chain, the traditional image of the prisoner.” A work produced in 1969, which is also a social statement, unfortunately still topical today.
