Vision of creating a unique ‘eco park’ for the South West Centralise waste recovery processes in one location
Sorting of industrial and commercial recycling R&D project for the conversion of waste plastics into liquid fuel
65,000m2 brownfield site acquired in January 2011 Positive planning credentials, underpinned by local need Environment Agency support for thermal treatment process
… complex site, with engineering challenges Chemical and heavy metal contamination, unexploded ordnance Location in flood plain required site level increase
Creation of 100 construction jobs and 80 permanent jobs in operation

A high volume sorting process, unique in the South West Providing a sound environmental solution for mixed commercial recycling Extracting valuable resources from otherwise waste materials Creating secondary products for international packaging manufacturers
Combined mechanical and manual sorting process to: Separate target materials (Fibre, OCC, PE, PET, HDPE, Fe, Non Fe) Extract glass and residual waste items Control output quality within 97.5% purity limit
Typical feedstock: SME’s producing office/packaging waste Producing around 1,000 week of recovered paper and plastics

Concept is to convert End of Life plastics to liquid fuel Diesel blend, Kerosene and Light Oil Target feedstock is plastics with minimal recycled value Low grade films and rigid plastics such as LDPE, PE and PP
Currently c.1.5mt of this material landfilled or incinerated Strong customer demand to find alternative processing route Added cyclical value and green credentials of fuel use Avonmouth ELP is first in UK, plan for more once operational

Process simplified as reverse of petrochemical fractionation
Material reformed until capable of being used to recover energy
20t/day feedstock will yield 17,000L fuel – an average forecourt
Key process steps: Feedstock shred and clean Plastic extrusion at 300oc Pyrolysis to break down carbon chains and reform Fractional distillation (standard oil refinery process) Fuel extraction and storage

Producing up to 33 MW of electricity from municipal residual waste Capable of processing up to 380kt/pa Located at Severnside Works, (ex. ICI) next to Seabank Power
Unrestricted access to railhead Close to existing national grid connection Brownfield site, with minimal environmental/archaeological complications
Planning awarded on appeal to SoS Sept 11 Commissioning planned to commence early 2016 Significant road upgrades required as part of development
Creation of 550 construction jobs and 55 permanent on completion
