Distinguished Level of AchievementThe Distinguished Level of Achievement requires:

○ 4 credits in math including Algebra II○ 4 credits in science○ All Foundation High School Program requirements○ At least one endorsement

To be eligible for the top 10% automatic college admissions, students must earn Distinguished Level of Achievement.

What is an Endorsement?● A career pathway (in college terms it’s a major)● An opportunity to study an area of interest prior to college● Consists of a cohesive sequence of elective courses in a selected pathway● Student’s earned endorsements will appear on their high school transcript● Student’s could earn more than one endorsement

Performance Acknowledgements

A student may earn a performance acknowledgement by:

● Earning 12 dual credit hours with GPA 3.0 or higher ● Proficient bilingualism or biliteracy● Earning a 3 or higher on an AP exam ● Outstanding performance on PSAT, SAT or ACT● Earning a nationally or internationally recognized business or industry

certification or license.

State Testing Standards

ALL Students are required to take and pass 5 End of Course exams to be eligible for graduation.

Earning College Credit while in High School

Students have an opportunity to earn college credits by taking AP and or Dual Credit courses.

Advanced Placement

● Credit earned by passing AP exam. Exam scores and credit awarded varies with each university.● Texas public universities will award credit for AP scores of 3 or higher at the discretion of the university.

Dual Credit

● Offered through Alvin Community College● Placement test required prior to enrolling in courses● Cost = $25 per credit hour plus textbooks● Opportunity to graduate with both high school diploma and Associate's Degree

2018-2019 Course Selection Process● Junior High and High School Counselors will meet individually with ALL 8th

grade students to develop a 4 year plan● Letters will be mailed home to parents this month with a scheduled date and

time for their students conference.● Four Year Plans will be completed in Skyward. Students and parents will be

able to view in their Skyward Family Access Account● Courses selected in the four year plan will be used for course registration.

JB HENSLER COLLEGE AND CAREER ACADEMY

WELCOME TO JBH COLLEGE & CAREER ACADEMYAdvanced Career & Technology (CTE) Courses

● Leading to Industry Recognized Certifications and/or Licenses in 16 different pathways of study● Preparing students to graduate from high school and be college and career ready

Provides rigorous coursework including Technical Dual Credit via Alvin Community College

● All of the pathways offered at JBH meet Graduation Endorsement Requirements

Open to students in grades 10-12 who meet requirements of taking the prerequisite/entry level course as a 9th/10th grader

● Students will submit a JBH Interest Form in the spring for the following school year. Please see website for details.

Commuter Campus

● Students will travel to JBH for Advanced CTE Electives and continue to take core classes at their home campus (Transportation is provided by AISD)

PreAP and AP Courses● PreAP and AP Courses are open to all students - please seek advice during your

4 year plan meeting.● Students need to complete the Pre AP/AP contract on the HS Campus Advanced

Academics page if selecting these courses.● You will not be able to request a change until weeks 7-9, and only after attending

tutorials and demonstrating educational need.● Some of the PreAP and AP courses have summer assignments - be sure to

inquire before the end of the school year.● AP courses indicate to 4 year universities that a student is prepared for the rigors

of college.● Human Geography is the recommended introductory AP Course for Freshmen.● Students may be able to receive college credit with an AP Exam score of 3, 4 or 5● Please contact your JH or HS Advanced Academics Specialist with any questions.
