• Vaccines are an important step in protecting against serious, and sometimes deadly, diseases.

• Vaccines are recommended throughout our lives. • A strong provider recommendation is one of the best

ways to ensure patients get the vaccinations they need when they need them!

Young Adults Immunization Week: Aug 4 - 10

“Off to College” Goal: Promote the importance of immunizations

among college students specifically: • Tdap vaccine which protects against tetanus,

diphtheria, and pertussis (also known as whooping cough).

• HPV vaccine which protects against the human papillomaviruses that cause most cervical cancers, anal cancer, and genital warts.

• Seasonal flu vaccine which protects against influenza.

Children & Teens Immunization Week: Aug 11-17

“Back to School”

Goal: Promote the importance of immunizations among children and teens specifically: • Young children (under 6): a series of shots to

protect against measles, polio, chicken pox, and hepatitis (and 10 other diseases).

• Pre-teens : Pre-teens need shots at age 11 or 12 to

help protect them from tetanus, diphtheria, whooping cough, meningitis, and HPV (human papillomavirus).

• Teens: A booster shot at age 16 to help protect

them from meningitis.

Adult Immunization Week: Aug 18-24

“Not just for kids” Goal: Promote the importance of immunizations among adults 19 and older: • Zoster (Shingles): for adults 60+ • Annual Flu Vaccination • Tdap: especially for adults who have close contact

with newborns • Pneumococcal vaccine: for adults 60+ and those with

chronic health conditions

Babies & Moms Immunization Week: Aug 25-31

“A healthy start” Goal: Promote the importance of immunizations among pregnant women and babies: • Tdap vaccine • Annual Flu vaccine
