Title: ACADEMIC ADVISORY BRIEFINGStudy scheme & Course registration of BEST Programme

Scope

• These Academic Advising System Guidelines cover the ‘mentormentee’ (teacher-student) relationship for the purpose of instilling self-confidence and motivation to learn until the student finally achieves success in his / her program of study.

• In the ‘Academic Advising System’ a student throughout his studies at the University is placed under the guidance of an Academic Advisor (PA).

• In this regard, the PA is a friend; wise, experienced and trusted, advisor and mentor of the students under his guidance.

Power and Responsibilities of Academic Advisers.

Academic adviser shall be concerned and knowledgable about the curriculum of the faculty and shall–

(a) monitor the progress of the performance of the student online and advice the students accordingly;

(b) advice the students relating to the registration of course of studies and other matters related thereto and if necessary, to make endorsement on the registration of course of studies, before the students perform the registration of course of studies through Student Information System;

(c) assist students in understanding the curriculum, system of studies, system of registration, system of examination, pre-requisite courses and exemption of courses of studies;

(d) give advice to overcome students academic problems;

(e) assist students in resolving problems other than non-academic, and if necessary to refer the problem to the relevant parties;

(f) supervise group project (development and extension);

(g) plan, implement and monitor activities involving all students under his advisory;

(h) advice students to register courses based on Programme of Studies curriculum enrolled by the students.

Student needs…

• Meeting with PA – at least 2 times per semester

• Registration - 12-20 credits

• Attendance to lectures -> 80%

• Assignment – need to submit according to the Lecturer of the course

• Marks for the 1st Assessment/Test 1 -> 40%

What do you need to know?• Follow the BEST study scheme including LPE, LAX & CEL when

registering for the course.

• Registration is open in weeks 12-14 of the current semester and 2 weeks at the beginning of the next semester.

• A student shall drop the course within the first and second week of the semester begins, until the seventh week of the same semester but shall pay a fine amounting RM50.00 to the University for each of the course of studies being dropped.

• Student need to print and keep the registration slip every semester after registration is done as a proved of the registration record.

• It is compulsory for students to take 2 credits of co-curriculum courses offered by the university.

• International students have to take Malay LanguageCommunication course (LPM2100) offered in Year 1 Semester 2.

• Students need to complete the English package as the table below :

University courses, 22 credits

A minimum of 120 credits including 2 credits hours of co-curriculum for graduation.

Courses Information

University(22 credits)

Includes 12 credits of General Subject (MPU) according to the U1-U4 component which consists of 4 courses and 2 credits of co-curriculum, 8 credits from 3 university compulsory courses and the remaining 2 credits are from one elective university course.

Core(68 credits)

Includes Body of Knowledge components in environmental science and technology.

Elective(30 credits)

The elective courses of the BEST program which include 12 credits of elective in environmental science, 12 credits of elective in environmental technology and 6 credits of independent elective that can be chosen by students from any university from inside and outside of country that equivalent with the course.
