Burglars decamp with cash,goods from mobile shop

OUR CORRESPONDENTSAMBA : Burglars during the intervening night of 4th

and 5th December, 2012 struck at a mobile phones shop

on Sumb Road, Samba and decamped with cash and cost-

ly mobile phones.

Owner of the shop when reached the shop in the morning

of Wednesday, found the locks of his shop broken and cash

to the tune of Rs 19,000 and six costly mobile phones

missing.

The Samba Police have registered the case for investiga-

tion.

Chowkidar found burnt alive OUR CORRESPONDENT

BARI BRAHMNA : With the recovery of a half burnt

body of Chowkidar, on Wednesday morning the factory

employees of Bari Brahmna area were in panic.

According to report the Bari Brahmna Police recovered

a half burnt body of one Bishan Dass (50) son of Churu

Ram resident of Ramban working as a Chowkidar in

Nishat Chemical Pvt Ltd, Bari Brahmna. The police

shifted his body to district hospital for postmortem and

handing over to his family members.

According to police he was putting up at Bari Brahmna

with his wife Salima Devi who has been arrested by the

police for investigation.

SPO found dead in mysterious circumstances OUR CORRESPONDENT

UDHAMPUR: A body of Special Police Officer (SPO)

posted at DIG Office Udhampur was found lying in mys-

terious circumstances in Udhampur on Wednesday.

According to report, Udhampur Police recovered body of

SPO lying in mysterious circumstances near Billan

Bowali locality in Udhampur. Sources said that some

passerby on seeing the body lying in a drain informed the

local police.

Police shifted the body to District Hospital Udhampur

where doctors declared him brought dead and identified

him as Roshan Lal Verma son of Makholi Ram Verma res-

ident of village Reeti in Udhampur. Victim was posted in

the office of the DIG Udhampur and last night he had

gone to his native house.

Police handed over the body to family members of the

victim after conducting the autopsy and registered a case

under section 174 Cr. PC.

Housewife poisons herself OUR CORRESPONDENT

UDHAMPUR: A housewife attempted suicide by consum-

ing poisonous substance in her house last night. On seeing

her condition critical she was shifted to nearby PHC at

Sanasar.

According to report, a housewife identified as Sunita

Devi wife of Jagdish Kumar resident of Sanasar took some

poisonous substances in her house to end her life. On see-

ing her unconscious condition her family members shifted

her to nearby PHC from where she was further referred to

District Hospital Udhampur.

Doctors washed her stomach and till filing last report her

condition was stated be to stable. Police has registered a

case in this regard.

Woman receives burn injures OUR CORRESPONDENT

UDHAMPUR: A woman received burnt injures in mys-

terious circumstances on Wednesday in Udhampur.

According to report, a housewife identified as Janki

Devi wife Uttam Chand resident of Ludhiana at present

staying at Udhampur received burn injures in her house.

Sources said that a kerosene oil lamp suddenly fell upon

her, with the result fire engulfed her and received 70 per

cent burn injuries.

She was immediately shifted to District Hospital

Udhampur. Police has registered a case in this regard.

Tractor turns turtle, driver killedOUR CORRESPONDENT

POUNI : A tractor operator was killed when his tractor

turned turtle while ploughing the land on Wednesday in

block, Pouni, district Rajouri.

According to report the tractor bearing registration No

JK02A-7414 while ploughing land in village Beoliyan dis-

trict Reasi turned turtle and its operator Behari Lal son of

Ram Lal resident of Beolian was killed on the spot.

Immediately on receipt of information the SHO Pouni

Inderpal Singh rushed to the spot and shifted the victim to

Primary Health Centre Pouni where the doctors declared

him as brought dead. His body was later handed over by

police to his family members after completing the legal for-

malities.

The police have registered the case for investigation.

and paid their respects tothe brave sons of the nation.

It is pertinent to mentionhere that, during the 1971Indo- Pakistan war a com-pany of 5 SIKH, wasentrusted with the vital roleof defending importantapproaches to ChhambSector under the leadershipof Maj D.S Pannu.

Over a period of four days,the brave soldiers success-fully repulsed as many asfourteen attacks launchedby the enemy, thereby suc-cessfully foiling the designsof the Pakistan Army in thesector. The brave soldiersstood fast till the enddespite all odds and inflict-ed prohibitive losses on theenemy.

Many of them, includingMaj D.S Pannu, theCompany Commander, sac-rificed their lives in the callof duty in the finest tradi-tions of the Indian Army.

STATE TIMES NEWS KISHTWAR : A meeting of theDirector Kishtwar Campus, Prof.Shohab Inayat Malik was held withMLC Kishtwar Peer Asger Ali onWednesday in which director apprisedMLC various problems being faced bythe Kishtwar Campus.

The director informed MLC thatKishtwar Campus is prestigious in thesense that four important courses viz.M.Sc.IT, M.Sc. Geology (Hydrologyand Soil Dynamics), MA Kashmiriand PGDCA are being run in the cam-pus. To run these courses more effec-tively, permanent positions of teachingas well as non teaching staff are need-ed and present laboratory facilitiesneed to be provided more equipment.

The director also told MLC that grant-in-aid which was being provided by thegovernment to the Kishtwar Campusand other campuses has not beenreleased still. Because of which, thecampus is facing a financial crunch.

Prof. Malik informed the MLC thatthough the land has been identifiedand notified for the campus but tilldate compensation to the owners of theland has not been provided by theGovt. He further informed that gov-ernment had not put many campusesin its plan or non plan budget becauseof which campuses are facing acutefinancial crunch. He was also informedthat if the grant-in-aid is not releasedwithin one month, the campus is not ina position to provide the salaries to its

employees. Peer Asger Ali gave apatient hearing to the DirectorKishtwar Campus and informed himthat he had already taken the issue inthe House Committee meeting. Heassured that other problems related tothe Kishtwar Campus and other cam-puses will be taken up with the govern-ment. House Committee is going tosubmit a detailed report regarding thecampuses to the Pro-Chancellor andChancellor of the Jammu Universityafter its another meeting which isgoing to be held on 17th December2012.

The MLC appreciated the efforts ofthe Vice-Chancellor University ofJammu Prof. M.P Singh Isher whodespite the financial crunch is taking

keen interest in developing the offsitecampuses of Jammu University. PeerAsger Ali further said that he wouldstress the government that it shouldbring the campus in plan or non planbudget so that financial position of thecampus could be improved. He saidthat Rs. 30 lakh which was provided bythe government last year as grant-in-aid is not enough to run such a bigcampus. He said that the grant shouldbe increased upto Rs.1 crore perannum so that campus could runeffectively. The director thanked theMLC for giving him a patience hearingand assured him that he would do hisbest for making the campus a modelone if the above mentioned problemsare solved by the government.
