The rock
cycleImagery Lesson:For each step in the rock cycle you will imagine that you are rock going through the rock cycle. After imagining what would happen to you at each step you will fill in your chart and draw a simple picture at each step. *The only writing required is the pages explaining the rock cycle diagram.
I am a ROCK!
In the MAGMA
Magma enters a magma chamber of a Volcano This magma
cools/crystalizes to become Igneous Rock
Extrusive Rock
Intrusive Rock

MAGMA
Crystallization
IGNEOUS
Occurs when magma cools slowly within deep magma
chambers.
The cooling of magma can form two types of Igneous rocks.
INTRUSIVE EXTRUSIVE
Granite
Diorite Gabbro
Occurs when magma is cooled rapidly near or at
the surface.
Obsidian Scoria
Pumice

Over time the rocks go through weathering by rain, wind and snow.
The weathered particles are then broken down into sediments

The weathered sediments continue erosion and are transported by rivers, wind, etc.
The sediments are next deposited.

Over time the sediments are compacted and cemented to form
sedimentary rock.As the sediments have the water leave it, minerals fill in the spaces and cement the rock together.

An earthquake occurs, causing the plate to slip under the crust, the rock undergoes Increased Temperature and Pressure deep in the crust.
The increase temperature and pressure squishes the rock and it becomes a metamorphic rock.

As the plate is pushed farther into the earth’s layers it melts
back into the mantle.
As the plate begins slipping into the mantle, the rocks are heated up to high temperatures. Once again the
rocks are melted and become magma.

THE ROCK CYCLE!
It is never ending. There are rocks at each stage at all times. Each rock helps to make up the beautiful earth on which we live. This is…
