EAGLE HEAD UPDATE
Dave Fisher has agreed to carve the next cane for
the wounded veteran cane project. So far, Dave is
carving a practice cane for his father in law.
Thanks, Dave for taking on this challenge, and for
volunteering.

BURNING CLASS
The class was a huge success; those who took the
class have said that she is a great instructor.
Michele would not Woodburn your piece instead
she would show you steps on a separate piece of
wood. If you are interested in taking Michele’s

Roper Mountain
Every second Saturday of each month
Roper Mountain Science Center has a
historical theme where kids can learn about
history. This is a great opportunity to get
out of the house and promote the club.

Golf ball face
Dave Sikkelee instructed our Saturday
meeting class for June. Dave showed the
class how to carve a caricature face in a
golf ball. I would like to thank Dave for
not only teaching the class, but also cutting
all of those golf balls.

who really gives a great one on one

July Picnic
We had a great turn out for the
picnic. Friends, family, and carvers
all got together to enjoy some
comforting food. We also had a
carving contest. The contest was to
carve a letter opener. Mike Barton
won the contest with his Santa head
letter opener. Congratulations Mike,
for winning the carving contest.

August class we will be talking about carvings for the
Friendship cane
Lila will be going over what we need to finish last year’s
friendship cane (Wild West theme)
September will be a sharpening instruction
Bring your tools September for the monthly meeting we will be
sharpening all of those tools that we sadly neglect. There will be
sharpening stations to education our members on different ways to
sharpen their carving tools.

IN MEMORY OF ED
ED BROCKELBANK
May 10, 1937 – July 11, 2013
Edmund Leo Brockelbank, 76, of Anderson, died Thursday,
July 11, 2013. Ed was born to the late Edmund and Caroline
Brockelbank and grew up in Ossining, NY. He received a
Bachelors and a Masters in Chemistry from the University
of Alabama. He was a member of the American Chemical
Society and retired as a Senior Chemist from BP Oil.
Ed was a well-known woodcarver and passionately brought
many people to carving. Most recently he taught
woodcarving at Clemson University, Furman University,
and summer programs at the Kanuga Conference Center. He
was also a lover of the outdoors and spent many hours
kayaking and backpacking. Ed worked many years with both
the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
Ed is survived by Dee Brockelbank, his loving wife of 52
years. He is also survived by three children: Dolores
Williams and her husband Joseph, of Buford, GA; Brenda
Hales and her husband Jeff, of Charlotte, NC; and Bill
Brockelbank and his wife Jennifer, of Anderson, SC. He also
is survived by three grandchildren: Zachary Williams, of
Buford, GA; and Bailey & Nicholas Brockelbank, of
Anderson, SC.
In lieu of flowers "Donations in Ed's memory may be made
to the Camp Old Indian Handicraft Building Renovation
fund (to be renamed after Ed), Blue Ridge Council, BSA, 1
Park Plaza, Greenville, SC 29607"
