Why are we having these Problems?
• We are selling more intellect and less materials• We are now managing the human imagination
not production lines• Our peoples expectations have changed but
ours haven’t• Our customers expectations have changed but
have ours?• Brand is starting to impact even B2B• Its all got a bit emotional• And if the trust is missing…..
Some key points!
• Many businesses have done just the opposite of what they should have done – order and conformity rather than free thinking and risk taking
• Many businesses could not have frustrated their people any more if they had tried to
• As small business owners/managers we are so reluctant to let go
• Perception is all there is – we need to learn to manage it
Why Leadership?
• The world around business is changing very fast
• Businesses themselves are also changing but more slowly
• People in business are hardly changing at all
Five Key Skills
• Creating a vision
• Generating Inspiration
• Reinforcement and Momentum
• Utilising change teams
• Letting go – facilitating rather than doing

Why we need them?
• Businesses will need to be able to manage change better in the future. They will have to be less organised and less controlled by a single brain
• The widespread trend towards interconnectedness will accelerate leading us needing to be more nimble, innovative and continuously self modifying
• Small, autonomous, flexible businesses will be the ideal structure in the future
“After you plant a seed in the ground, you don’t dig it up every week to see how its
doing.”
William Coyne (3M)
Stop, Start, Continue
• Identify what you need to stop doing• Identify what you need to start doing
that you haven’t done before• Identify what you need to continue
doing
Gives you a chance to replace whatever you need to that is important to you
Some points to ponder
• Imagination is the new economy• Brain power not muscle power• Become passionate about problem
solving• Formal structures may be holding
you back• Stand behind people in times of
stress• Disrupt the status quo
