THE LOUVRE MUSEUM (MUSEE DU LOUVRE)

Louvre is a palace situated on the Bank of Seine in Paris, France. Louvre is known as the “Heart of Paris”, since it was built in 12th century under Philip II. It became a museum in 10 August 1793 with an exhibition of 537 paintings. It is the world's most visited museum. It is spread in area of 60,600 square meters (652,300 square feet).Today Louvre displays works of Western ar t , from the middle ages to 1848 , ancient civilization & the Islamic world . The collection is divided among eight Main departments: -Egyptian Antiquities; Near Eastern Antiquities; Greek, Etruscan, and Roman Antiquities; Islamic Art; Sculpture; Decorative Arts; Paintings; Prints and Drawings.Building is divided into 3 parts..-

Architectural style:-Additions of the 13th and 14th centuries; Gothic, Additions of the 16th century;Renaissance, Additions of the 17th and 18th centuries;Louis XIII Style and Baroque, Additions of the 19th century; Neo-Classicism, Neo-Baroque and Napoleon III Style;Additions of the 20th century,Modernism.

Pyramid (entrance) - It is a large glass and metal pyramid, surrounded by three smaller pyramids, in the main courtyard (Court Napoléon) of the Louvre Palace (Palais du Louvre) in Paris. The large pyramid serves as the main entrance to the Louvre Museum. Completed in 1989.
