OLYMPICS

Every 4 years (every leap year) the Olympics are held. This year the Olympics starts on the 27th of July to the 12th of August.

There are lots of games that all of the world can play (only if they are good enough) to get medals.

OLYMPICS

The Olympics were started by the Greeks over 2,700 years ago.

The Games were held in Olympia, Greece before going every where in the world.

is Rome.

8 THE OLYMPIC TORCH AND FLAME

The Olympic torch is not allowed to go out.

There is a different torch every year.

This year one is lit then it lights another and then to 5 more and then they light the flame.

This year the flame’s style is top secret.

The Olympic oath is where all the athletes say that they will not cheat in the Olympics and that the judge will not cheat and everything is fair.

In the name of all the competitors I promise that we shall take part in these Olympic Games, respecting and abiding by the rules which govern them, committing ourselves to a sport without doping and without drugs, in the true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and the honor of our teams.
