“Queanbeyan Rotary - Your need is our deed”
30 April 2014 Edition President’s Report
Last Friday was ANZAC Day and I for our Club and Laura Sparkes, QHS, for Interact lay wreaths at the
Queanbeyan ceremony – as usual it was very moving and so well attended. I so glad that we can show this
respect and support to our servicemen and women past and present.
Last week Grayce Cooper talked about her experiences with RYLA in January – thanks Grayce and all the
best for the future.
This week Gail Freeman will be talking to us about Rotary Global History Fellowship. Look forward to
seeing you all there.
This coming weekend is full on with District Assemby at Bega – Doug and Natalie going, and the
Megaswim at the AIS.
It is also the last weekend for my exhibition of photos with my friend Carol’s paintings at M16 in Griffith,
ACT.
All our best to Glenys Jupe – hope it is all good news at the doctors.
Kristin

The event will again be sponsored by the Australian National University. Broad details are provided below. Additional information and registration forms will be available soon. Applications close on 31 May 2014 MUNA, the Model United Nations Assembly, is based on a continuing successful project, originally organised by the Rotary Club of Forbes, NSW, which has now been adopted by Rotary Districts and is enthusiastically supported by the United Nations. 2014 Peace Fellows Dinner
Rotary World Peace Fellows are a very special group of people. They come from across the world,
have a wide range of talents – but most importantly they have all been very active and creative in
helping people in various parts of the world who suffer from the consequences of conflict.
The Fellows have been selected by Rotary as the most talented from a wide pool of applicants. They
are complementing their experience with full time studies in peace and conflict resolution -
sponsored by Rotary International - at one of six specially selected Rotary Peace Centres around
the world.
Our district is fortunate to host the 2013/14 class of Rotary Peace Fellows who are studying at the
University of Queensland.
They are coming for a four day programme of professional and cultural visits.
On Monday 5 May, 6.30 for 7pm, we will hold a special dinner at The Deck at Regatta Point, Parkes,
where all eleven fellows will tell us their fascinating stories as well as their experiences and plans
for the future. You will find this inspiring and moving - so much more can be done in peace in peace
keeping and conflict resolution - and our Peace Fellow are some of the best equipped to make a
difference.
