Emphasis on jazz type music Introduction of “soundies” Gave African Americans a voice Had a “live” feel Limited camera movement and creativity Some growth -> e.g. transitions and

narratives

The 1940s:

Introduction of “scopitones” Use of colour Growth -> variation of shots and editing Included choreography (dance routines) “Promos” – Cross Media Promotion E.g. Hard

The 1960s:

Variety of shots e.g. cranes Use of lighting Artists became more individual and stood

out more e.g. David Bowie

The 1970s:
