Presenting our school

The 1st Lyceum of Giannitsa is an upper secondary school

situated in Giannitsa, about 50 km from Thessaloniki.

It consists of about 400 students, who live in the

centre of the city and come to Lyceum after

spending three years at one of the local Junior

High Schools. Their age ranges from 15

up to 18.Students of the third grade. Vienne, Dec. 2012

In the second and third grade, the students also attend compulsory lessons of one of the three directions below:

After completing 3 year schooling, students are examined on a nationwide scale and are admitted to universities according to their choice and their level of performance in the subjects of

their direction. Each lesson has a difficult factor, depending on the direction that the student has chosen and the university.

Apart from the compulsory lessons, the students of the second andthird grade have to attend one of following lessons of their choice:- Information Technology- Foreign Language (French, German)- Line / Freehand Drawing- Astronomy- European Literature- Economic Theories

School facilities

Our school provides sports facilities: a gym and outdoor fields for volleyball and basketball.

The school has also a technology room, which provides ample multimedia theatre and conference facilities, two laboratories, a

chemistry room and a library.

Our students also take part in various competitions such

as mathematics, chemistry, physics,

biology, poetry, music. Every year they part in the

competition of the Greek Youth Parliament.

Our school participates in european programmes and

competitions, such as Euroscola. The last two years

students of our school were selected to become members of the European Parliament at the Parliament’s premises in

The Comenius Project

70 members of our school (teachers and students) take part in the Comenius Project: “Been there, done that as a young european citizen

(2012-2014)”, which enhances and increases partnership between schools in different EU Member States and encourages language learning, services and better teaching techniques and practices.
