SPORT SELECTIONS TERM 3 2018

PROCESS

▪ Sport Selection for Term 3 will take place:

- Monday 25th June for Year 10,

- Tuesday 26thJune for Year 9, and

- Wednesday 27th June for Year 8.

** select carefully! - swapping sports once Term 3 commences will only be permitted for Pastoral

reasons, approved by Year Coordinators. This is due to Bus allocations and venue commitments!

***all selections will be completed via Google Forms, so students should check emails and Google Classroom in Pastoral or Period 1 on the days listed.

PROCESS

▪Students will be asked their preference for Thursday afternoon activities. Where

possible, students will be allocated first preference, and where popular sports are

filled quite quickly, priority will be given according to the current House Points

order.

▪Preference will be given to 10’s, then 9’s, then 8’s in order.

▪ If students are unable to be allocated their first preference, they will be allocated

preference 2 , or Mr Hughes will make contact with them to work a solution.

***IMPORTANT NOTES***

• Special notes are required for Slam, Flippa Ball, Surf Awareness, and Millennium this term. These are available outside the West Wing during the last week of Term 2 and the first week of Term 3. These are due to the teacher on the relevant sport on the first day of sport for Term 3.

• If a student is not dressed in the correct uniform on a Thursday, a note must be presented to and signed by Mr Hughes before school or during Break 1. Students not wearing the correct uniform and without a note will be sent to Sports Detention instead of going to Sport for the afternoon. If a student records 3x sport detentions in a term, a short afternoon detention will be issued and home will be contacted.

GOLF - DRIVING RANGE

▪get along and practice your golf shots, improve your accuracy and better your game and handicap with Mark Churcher at South Tacoma Golf Range.

▪practice in a friendly environment with the aim of getting thatperfect golf shot sorted.

▪ facilities are located south tacoma offering a unique environmentto help you with your game.

FLIPPA BALL

▪ Flippa Ball is a modified version of water polo played in the YMCA Mariners indoor heated pool.

▪ students will establish confidence with friends along with learning skills and completing drills and playing in game situations, all while participants can still touch the bottom.

FITNESS BOXING

▪ located at Enterprize Boxing Fitness; 2/33 Arizona rd, Charmhaven

▪develop core strength with boxing techniques and drills

▪ an all over cardio and strength training workout, it helps improve endurance, co-ordination and stamina

▪ you'll also get an intense workout while improving your core strength at the same time.

LEAGUE TAG

- the rules of League Tag are largely the same as standard Rugby League, including field goals, goal kicking and kicking in general play. The most significant changes is the elimination of scrums, whilst additional rules such as prohibitions on grabbing clothing, fending of tags and performing 360 degree turns are added. Games are played over two 25 minute periods.

- League Tag replaces tackling with the removal of one of two tags carried on an opponents hips, attached directly to specific League Tag belts here at school with velcro strips.

BAREFOOT BOWLS

▪Toukley RSL Bowling Club

▪ coloured bowls

▪ regular bowlers on hand to assist with technique

YOGA/MEDITATION

▪ in the school dance studio

▪ very structured and very relaxing.

▪physically and mentally challenging.

▪ a real escape!!! Enjoy.

SURF AWARENESS ** Please read for Stand-Up Paddleboarding

***no surfing for sport in terms 2 & 3 due to no lifeguards present at the beach, HOWEVER:::

▪APOLA Surf Awareness course compulsory for all students who choose Surfing for sport. + we are aiming to include stand up paddleboarding as an option in term 4, and this course

must be completed prior to participation

▪Surf Awareness course to be run prior to surfing in terms 4, 2018, and term 1, 2019. this particularly applies to year 7 & 8 students.

THEORY – surf conditions workbook and RLSSA CPR

PRACTICAL – 400m timed pool swim, then a beach swim, paddle, and run (ironperson) course.

▪please only sign up if you are a competent swimmer and board rider.

SELF DEFENSE VIA BRAZILIAN JIU JITSU

▪ learn self defense techniques in a relaxed, safe, enjoyable and ego-free training environment

▪ you’ll get fit! training with an experienced and qualified black belt instructor, you will dramatically boost your conditioning, endurance and flexibility – all contributing to an improvement in your general health and self confidence

SLAM (Skateboard and Scooter)

▪please make sure that you are ready to board the bus at 1:05pm in order to maximise your time at slam.

▪byo board/scooter.

▪helmets are compulsory – either byo or hire one at the venue.

▪ scooters are to be returned to the back of the west wing after sport and you can pick them up at 3:20 when you head to bus lines.

▪ spaces are limited to 40 participants

▪**special note required for this sport - available outside west wing from the final week of term 2

ROCK CLIMBING

▪Lakehaven Recreation Centre

▪qualified instructors

▪ spaces are strictly limited to 16

▪ challenge yourself physically and mentally

INDOOR SOCCER

▪Charmhaven Indoor Sports

▪ structured round robin competition.

▪ small teams, competitive spirit, good fun

LASER BLAST

▪ this incredibly popular sport will continue

▪ after negotiations with the venue we are now able to offer 40 places for Laser Tag

▪work in small teams, use stragegy, have fun!!

MILLENNIUM GYM

▪Millenium Health Club – Charmhaven

▪working on the cardio/weights equipment

▪qualified instructors to guide you

▪ relaxed atmosphere

WEIGHTS – LAKEHAVEN REC CENTRE

▪ squash is a great indoor option

▪no equipment is required for squash.

ART CLASS (School Based)

▪ love art and want to spend some time on your art technique?

JUNIOR THEATRE CELEBRATION OZ

▪ rehearsals for students who are already performing in The Little Mermaid Junior Theatre

production.
