This exciting city, named after the Thracian goddess of wisdom – Sofia, survived the turbulent times in the history of the country. It has its own particular rhythm and pace that I felt while walking in the winding streets in the heart of the city full of charming workshops, galleries, antique bookshops and welcoming café gardens. Many of the magnificent Thracian treasures discovered in Bulgaria are refined golden wine sets.Tasting Mavrud, the finest of the Bulgarian red wine varieties, which you cannot find anywhere else in the world, has forever changed the way I perceive wine drinking. I completely agree with our sommelier that as far as wine taste is concerned, there is not a right answer. It is for each person to try to understand and feel it. Using sight, smell and taste I let myself be carried away by the sensations that the Bulgarian wine conveys. The bottle of Mavrud that I brought back home was more than a drink. It was food for the soul."
