Telecommunications & Information Management Major

TheinterdisciplinarymajorinTelecommunications&InformationManagement(TIM)isofferedthroughtheSchoolofCom-munication,ComputerInformationSystems(CIS)program,DepartmentofBusinessInformationSystems,andtheHaworthCollegeofBusiness.TheTIMmajorisdesignedtotrainstudentsinavarietyoftelecommunicationsandinformationtechnologybasedsubdisciplines,includingcabletelevision,telephony,databasemanagement,networkoperations,satelliteandwirelessandInternetcommunication.TheTIMmajoroffersa21stcenturyapproachtothestudyoftelecommunicationsandinformationtechnologybycombiningpeopleandresourcesacrossthegreaterWMUcampus.Workingtogether,CommunicationandCISofferprospectivemajorsauniquelydesignedprogramthatsupportsthelargermissionofbeingastudent-centeredresearchuni-versity.GraduatingstudentswillreceiveaBachelorofArtsdegreefromtheCollegeofArts&SciencesoraBachelorofBusinessAdministrationdegreefromtheHaworthCollegeofBusiness.

Admission to the TIM major is competitivebasedonoverallgradepointaverage,gradesinCommunicationandCISclasses,andanapplication.Tobeconsidered,youmusthavecompletedCom1000andCom2400withagradeofCorbetter;haveanoverallGPAof2.50andhavecompleted30hoursatWesternMichiganUniversity(fortransferstudents,atleast15hoursatWestern).Application deadlines are September 15, January 15 and May 15 annually.
