Why Reclassify Your Collection?
• Library has “outgrown” the current classification
• Special collections need more specificity in shelving
• Library is joining a consortium that uses LC classification
• Request from library users or administrators for LC classification
• Desire to acclimate students to LC classification found in larger libraries
The Big Picture
• Library exports MARC records from local system
• MARCIVE finds LC classification
– In library’s records, where possible (050, 090)
– (Option) In LC database, where possible.
• Holdings in library’s records are updated with new call number
• Spine label sets are generated
• MARC records and labels are sent to library
• Library imports records and applies labels to books
